I spent time earlier in the week getting ready for PB&J Day here in the shop. Working on the pattern and sample took a “tad” longer than usual. I took the finished runner to the shop on Tuesday, quite proud of myself for being two days “early”. You’ve got to be very careful of that type of feeling… Next up was proofreading the pattern. As I sat down to check the math, I realized a calculator would be helpful. When I went to my drawer to snag one, my favorite was missing. I pulled the next one in the pile out (who really needs four calculators anyway?) and headed back to the table. I set the calculator down at right angles to the one that was already clearly in view! I’m not ready to accuse the leprechauns of overstaying their welcome, but not long after that I realized I had pieced the runner incorrectly!

Hoping every project you attempt this week goes more smoothly,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (4-4-26) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. We will spend a few minutes looking at new things in the shop, we will discuss upcoming events, and then we will move on to the new block kit. As you might expect, there are reasons for the block, and the way it is constructed - the goal is something new to think about every session! Don’t forget your blocks from last month for show and tell!

Thank you so much for your support of our PB&J Day efforts! You are so very generous. The food pantry will be surprised, and very grateful!

Southwestern PA Shop Hop Passport Premiere Party!

Saturday ~ April 11th

While the hop isn’t until May, shop hop season really begins with the release of the 2026 hop passport. Next Saturday, April 11th, you will find a little taste of what the hop is like as you take the first opportunity to purchase this year’s passport. We will share the first hop progressive quilt block pattern (and a look at the fabrics we are using for our version!), we will share a technique demo, a fabric treat, and other treats - all a mini version of the actual hop! Passports $5.00

Three Rivers Quilters Show!

April 16th - 18th

Loft Conference Center - Southpointe

We can’t wait for the Three Rivers Quilters show! Are you as excited as we are?! The event will showcase 130 quilts (selected from over 180 entries this year!), demos, raffles, vendors, and the ever popular Granny’s Attic. The space is beautiful and bright - the perfect place to see the amazing quilts that are sure to be part of this year’s show. Be sure to check out the show raffle quilt when you are in the shop in the days leading up to the show - it is a beautiful example of a contemporary Log Cabin quilt (the theme this year is Log Cabin) worked in elegant French General prints. More show details can be found on the guild website or on their flyers which can be found on the counter in the shop.

Several of the great big boxes that arrived today contain baskets - the incredible pieces hand made by women in Ghana. The project is a collaborative effort that works to create economic opportunity and empowerment for the creators. Sorry to say, it will take me several days to shape the baskets - maybe they will be ready just in time for the bunny to fill them!

Baskets $29.00 - $55.00 each

Comfort Cases Project ~ Sewing Day!

Saturday ~ May 2nd ~ 12:00pm-4:00pm

Two years ago, we were approached by Stacey Lee (of Stacey Lee Creative) with an invitation to join the effort to support Comfort Cases. The organization provides filled backpacks for children entering the foster care system. The call was, and is, for small quilts (30” x 40” for babies and 50” x 50” for older children) to add to the other things that go into the backpacks (which include new pajamas, a book, travel size toiletries, a tiny stuffed animal,...). After visiting the organization headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland, we totally committed to the effort! We already hosted one sewing session this year to support the effort and now are hosting another! You are invited to join us on May 2nd to see several patterns that make great Comfort Cases quilts, and to continue work on the ones you have started. Quilts are due in the shop by May 23rd so we can load the car and drive them to the organization before the end of May. We would love to have your help - your stitches really do make a difference.
