Youngest really looked forward to her work holiday party this year. She’s a big fan of things they have done in the past - gift exchange, scavenger hunt,... There was a new planning committee this year, with new ideas. They spent some time in the office on party day (not doing a single one of her favorite office holiday activities), and then headed off on a new adventure. Who could have guessed that her years of bocce experience, under less than ideal conditions (from about 4 years old, on a mountain hillside, with very bumpy grass surface…), would come in handy one day? She found she might just be interested in a winter sport that she’s pretty decent at for a beginner - curling! I figure if she can embrace a sport, a winter one no less, we can all look for new adventures in the new year!

Wishing you a new year packed with creative moments and much joy,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (1-3-26) those in our 2025 beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We will share shop news, including information about our new sampler series, and the last kit for your 2025 sampler quilt. You won’t be surprised to learn, there is a bit of helpful construction information to share for the block… We will also talk about adding borders to your quilt, and briefly touch on finishing options. I hope you can make it - don’t forget your completed block from last month!

We are beginning 2026 with two new shop clubs, yes, in addition to those you already know and love! Let us know soon if you would like to join us for ~

Simply Charming Club

Begins ~ January 10th, 2026!

This club is as simple as the name would indicate! Each month we will feature a new small quilt made from charm squares. The unique little quilts are the work of Me & My Sister Designs - well known for their fun fabrics and patterns. To participate all you need to do is stop in during the month, purchase a charm pack, and we will share the month’s pattern as a gift! How fun, how simple - no fee, no stress - just fun new little projects every month! Let us know if you would like to be part of the group!

QC Featherweight Club

Saturday ~ January 24th, March 7th and May 16th ~ 10:30am-12:30pm

Vintage Singer Featherweight sewing machines are a quilt world favorite for very good reasons - not the least of which is, they work so very well for piecing! This new group will focus on the history of the machines, care and maintenance, and actual machine use (covering practical tips for using your vintage treasure!). We will learn a little more each meeting as we construct small projects intended to put our machines in use. Fee $10.00 per session

QC Fat Quarter Fling!

Saturday ~ January 17th

Our New Year’s festivities are a little different… We figure there is no better time to start a new project, and no better way to get started, than at our Fat Quarter Fling! During the Fling, on Saturday the 17th, every in stock, pre-cut fat quarter will be just $1.38 (as we begin our 38th year!). You will find individual fat quarters in a rainbow of colors, and stacks of fat quarters, all over the shop - all offered at the Fling price! We try to showcase designs that can be worked with fat quarters, but to be honest, mostly on that day we are trying to help everyone find fat quarters they love! It gets a bit crazy here, but it is well worth the trip!

PS If you have our 2026 QC Date Book be sure to look for more information about the Fling!

The new year also means new block of the month programs - quilt projects that can be worked little by little over many months. While we are offering nine new programs, there is room in this issue for a quick look at just one option ~

our-town image

Our Town is a delightful new project from Riley Blake. The 72” x 72” quilt is made up of twelve unique blocks (each a classic town building designed by a different Riley Blake designer), a large pieced center, and borders - all coming together for one very quaint town! Your kits, which include all fabrics for the top and binding and patterns, will come in a cute keepsake box each month. Please register soon for this program - supply is very limited.

Fee $39.95 per month (please note - first and last month paid when registering)

Upcoming classes ~

Quiltmaking 101

Friday ~ January 16, 23 and February 13 ~ 10:30am-1:30pm

Quiltmaking 101 is a class for beginners or anyone who wants to get back to basics. This three part series will begin with discussion of basic quiltmaking tools, and then move on to pressing, cutting, and 1/4” seam sewing. You will be making a table runner or small quilt as you learn the basics, including finishing off your piece with batting and binding.

Fee $54.00

Freezer Paper Foundation Piecing

Friday ~ January 30 ~ 10:30am-2:00pm

Have you tried traditional foundation paper piecing? Did you enjoy it? Would you like to learn a new technique that results in the same precision, with no ripping out of paper, and no “backwards” stitching? The freezer paper piecing technique is a game changer! Once you learn the technique, you can apply it to most traditional foundation piecing projects.

Fee $28.00

Quick reminder ~

If the weather is blustery please give the shop a call before setting out. Snow can be piling up in our corner of the world, even if it is fine where you are! School closures are a good indicator that roads are not passable!

Also - if you ordered a 2026 Snow Day Surprise kit for pick up you might want to snag it soon. Looks like we are not going to escape storms this year…

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
