Several weeks ago I heard dripping in our powder room. Never good… My sweetie discovered the issue. A pipe had been installed backwards - the seal pointing in the wrong direction. He fixed the pipe, touched up paint, caulked behind the sink - so much work for a tiny little sound. This week I again heard a dripping sound in the powder room. “Oh no” came to mind as I started searching under the sink, on the floor, near the window,... I envisioned more trips to the hardware store, more plumbing, more paint to repair. When the panic started to subside, I listened a little more carefully. What I was hearing was actually the humidifier in the kitchen, two rooms away… Do you think I need to fess up to hearing the sound my sewing machine makes when it needs oil, as I sit directly in front of it? Of course if I do, I will have to oil it myself…

Wishing you pleasant moments at your sewing machine this week,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (3-7-26) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We will review the techniques we introduced in the first session, cover more piecing information, and hand out the second block in the series. We can’t wait to see your first block - don’t forget to bring it along!

QC Featherweight Club

Saturday ~ March 7th ~ 10:30am

The second session of our new Featherweight Club will be held this Saturday. During the session, we will continue our look at the history of our favorite little machines (did you have a chance to check on the “birthday” of your machine?!), and then move on to more “machine use” pointers. Renae has another project ready for you to stitch on your Featherweight. I’ve seen the results of your sewing from the first session - wonderful - can’t wait to see what you make this time! Please give the shop a call to let us know you are planning to attend, and to get the supply list if you do not already have the information.

Fee $10.00 per session

Have you heard the news? There is going to be a Southwestern PA Shop Hop this year! The eight shop hop will be held May 11th-16th. As you journey from shop to shop, getting your passport stamped at each, you can gather goodie bags, progressive quilt block patterns, door prize entries, and a look at some interesting demos here at Quilters Corner. Passports for the fun adventure go on sale at the premiere party, being held in each participating shop, on Saturday, April 11th. Purchase your passport that day (still just $5.00!) to snag the first hop quilt block pattern, and enjoy other little treats here in the shop. Stop in soon for all the details!

Be sure to check your QC date book. There is information about our little celebration to mark Plant a Flower Day on the 12th.

There are two new books you might want to check out - one is already in the shop, the other is due to arrive very soon.

panel-mash image

Panel Mashup is an incredible new book written by Gudrun Erla and Doug Leko - what a team they make! I counted twenty unique settings for some of the most popular panel print sizes. Some of the pieces are made with smaller panel designs, others with the large ones. In every case, the pieced settings truly enhance, not just enlarge, the stylish artwork now found on panels. This book is well worth a look - inspiration can be found on every page! Book $30.00

In a little over a week, on the 17th, the next book in the 3-Yard quilts series debuts. Weekend 3-Yard Quilts includes directions for eight new quilts created with just three different one yard cuts of fabric. This time the creative duo of Donna and Fran are focusing on patterns that are quick to create, yet still irresistible. We selected two Kaffe prints and a bold yellow background piece for the book’s Lakeside pattern. We’ll see how much of the design we can have ready to share when the book arrives. Books from Fabric Cafe tend to go very quickly - maybe pre-order your copy today?

Book $19.99

Upcoming classes! ~

Choosing Color With Confidence

Wednesday ~ March 11th ~ 10:30am-12:30pm

In this lecture format class, you will be introduced to basic color theory as it pertains to selecting fabrics for your sewing projects. We are surrounded by color everywhere, every day, and thus, may take color for granted. We can choose color intuitively or consciously. The difficulty is trusting those instincts. We will study how to go about choosing with confidence during the session.

Fee $18.00

Back-Basted Applique

Thursday ~ March 19 ~ 10:30am-1:30pm

Like with pieced quilt designs, there are many different ways to execute applique. The back-basting technique is a handwork method that requires a unique setup, which eliminates the need for paper templates. The applique design is first traced on the back of the fabric, and then basting and stitching begins. During the class you will work the different steps used for this precise, slow stitching technique.

Fee $24.00

Free Motion Machine Quilting

Wednesday ~ March 25th ~ 10:30am-1:30pm

Freehand machine quilting can be liberating! Machine quilting allows a quick completion of projects. As with any technique, setting up your machine properly is a must. And then, of course, practice makes better! Please join Jill for this introduction to freehand machine quilting- you’ll be off to a great start!

Fee: $24.00

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
