The Magic of Mainland Greece’s Sustainable Coastlines

 

Each visit to Greece brings opportunities to experience destinations beyond the usual. While we love and support travel to the islands of Greece, many plan their visit to Hellas (Greece) without even giving thought to visiting the mainland. Although mainland Greece is not as popular as the islands, it provides engaging sights, amazing landscapes, beautiful towns, and wonderful beaches. Our May 2024 Greece FAM provided a first-hand opportunity to experience what the mainland has to offer.

 

A few fun facts about Greece:


*The total land area of Greece (one-fifth of which is made up of the Greek islands) is comparable in size to England or the U.S. state of Alabama.

*About 80% of Greece consists of mountains and hills, being one of the most mountainous countries in Europe.

*The country has the largest coastline in Europe (13,676km).

*Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece, as well as being one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning approximately 3,400 years.

*Thessaloniki, named after a Macedonian princess, is the country’s second largest city that is located in the north and offers rich architectural heritage, a stunning waterfront, and has a bustling city center.
