It was time for our Turkey FAM this Spring, and it absolutely did not disappoint! There are so many wonderful areas of Turkey, but for this trip, we settled on Istanbul and Bodrum. Both are incredible in their own ways…
We were off and running on our first full day in Istanbul with Aida Tailor Made Travelling!
After a sunshiney wake-up at the brand new Peninsula Istanbul, we began the morning at the Hippodrome, a central area of Istanbul to begin the story-telling of a centuries-old city that was formerly Constantinople until 1923.
It was also an exciting day, because after literally 20 years of renovation, the Blue Mosque re-opened 2 weeks ago. This stunning sanctuary, built between 1609-1617, was the first to have 6 minarets, nearly trumping that of Mecca, built during the Ottoman Empire. Really a stunning place, and one where you feel the history.
We also had the opportunity to visit the largest cistern in Istanbul; used during the times of the aqueducts, these cisterns were used to store water for the city. Now, many have been turned into underground museums that are really unlike anything ever seen.
