On Elections
I'm glad that the two major political conventions are behind us. Experiencing them doesn't make me feel very spiritual, but competitive. Now, we should ourselves that voting is a sacred duty and, according to the Book of Common Prayer, for which we are accountable to God Almighty. Read the prayer on page 822, "For an Election:"
Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Voting is a privilege for which many have sacrificed their lives, from soldiers to civil rights activists, from prophets to folks who stand in line for hours to exercise this essential act of human dignity. "I only have to vote once," a 90-year-old Black woman told me in a South Africa township church shortly before she voted for the first time in 1994. "Then, God can call me home."
No preacher should tell you how to vote, but I pastorally remind you to vote to fulfill your baptismal promises. So, are you registered? If not, try this link: https://vote.sos.ri.gov/Voter/RegisterToVote.

Listening for God's voice in the Sunday morning Bible study
When we finish a scripture in church, the reader says, "Hear what the Spirit is saying to God's people." Through meditating on a passage of scripture, we hear God still speaking. This is the goal of the Sunday morning Bible Study which now meets in Honyman Hall each Sunday at 9 a.m. Prepare by reading the passages in advance, click here.

Noon Healing Service
Join the Rev. Noël Robinson for a quiet service of reflection and prayer, with communion and the laying on hands for healing.
| RECTOR SEARCH PROCESS UPDATE |
Please plan to attend the following two very important Congregational Meetings which will be led by Canon Dena Cleaver-Bartholomew:
1. Parish History Event on September 22nd. During this meeting, there will be a discussion about Trinity’s history to create a shared awareness that will assist in the creation of the profile and during the discernment process.
Please note, on Sunday, Sept. 22, there will only be Morning Prayer at 8 a.m., to encourage all of the 8 a.m. regulars to attend the 10 a.m. service and subsequent meeting.
2. Congregational Conversation on October 20th. During this meeting, members of the congregation will have the opportunity to answer 12 narrative questions. These answers will be used by the Profile team to create the Office of Transition Ministry Profile.
These meetings are very important to ensure we create a profile that properly represents Trinity Church to a potential candidate and defines what we desire in our next Rector.
If you have questions on the process, please contact me.

Do you remember shopping for a favorite notebook, new pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, a small calculator? Or a special lunch box, and back pack? Please consider buying items for the Boys and Girls Club as they prepare to go back to school. Please consider donating these much-needed items.
The children at the Boys and Girls Club could really use supplies to make it a great year. The list of supplies needed can be found on the desk in the Hawes Room Foyer. The Collection Drive ends September 1, 2024.

Trinity300
2026 will be a milestone of achievements and celebration for our church and the Newport community. The Trinity300 committee comprised of parishioners and leaders of many Newport non-profit organizations composed the following vision statement:
"The vision of Trinity300 is to identify, organize and successfully accomplish a series of events and offerings-in the year 2026-in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the building of historic Trinity Church, Newport. Continuing its role as a 'Welcoming Beacon' for our City and beyond, these will include lectures, exhibits, ceremonies, presentations, musical and artistic performances, social gatherings, parties and worship services."
We invite you to consider what you would like to see in this celebration and share ideas with us as we plan the events. Please indicate if you would be willing to volunteer. Please contact Jeff Clark or Bob Smith.
