Message from the Rector:
On Monday afternoon I had a few quiet hours to dig myself out of my email inbox, which had grown quite full after my time away earlier this month. As is always the case with this activity, I was switching subjects with every email: the organ project, Trinity300 plans, vestry work, financial review, building projects, wedding inquiries, pastoral questions, Holy Week planning… you get the idea. During my quick trip through almost every part of our church life, I came across an email from The Rev. David Duprey. Many of you have had the chance to meet or hear David. He preached an incredible sermon at Trinity in January, and he assisted Noël with worship earlier this month. When not assisting in worship he can often be found sitting in the balcony on the south side.
David is an Episcopal priest, a Navy chaplain, and currently a student at the Naval War College. He sends out an email each week with a reflection, and I am honored to be among those who receive it.
The reflection he had sent on March 1st had been left unopened in my inbox. As I cruised through the other messages, his words stopped me in my tracks. In the hours following the U.S. and Israel joint attacks on Iran, he was offering an outline for our prayers. Then he walked us through concentric circles of prayer, beginning at the place of impact and ending where we are.
If I’m honest, staying busy has helped me to avoid thinking about this conflict, and when I think about praying I often don’t know where to start. “Praying for peace” doesn’t quite feel like enough. David’s concentric circles of prayer helped me stop, and pray, and grieve. I have prayed through these circles many times since.
David has given me permission to share his writing with you, though he asks that you not share it on social media. He is happy to dialog with you concerning these circles of prayer, and he can be reached by email. I hope you will stop what you are doing, and have the spiritual strength – as Dave says – to be present in these prayers.
Dave, thank you for your presence, your ministry, and your wisdom.
With gratitude,
Meaghan

Join the Outreach Team
at Trinity!
Out
When I was a child, every Lent my Episcopal church in Greenwich, Connecticut gave out “mite boxes” to Sunday School kids. Over the forty days of Lent, we dropped our pennies, nickels and dimes into the small cardboard boxes, and at Easter, we presented our full “mites” at the altar, to be used for charitable purposes. From a young age, we imbibed the Christian belief that we were called to care for our neighbors and those suffering in the world. Episcopal children no longer put their dimes and nickels into mite boxes, yet there are many opportunities for all of us to serve Christ in those who suffer. Trinity Church has had a strong tradition of outreach to those in need in our community, and the wider world, both through raising funds for financial contributions and through actual service, in programs like our Community Supper.
Over the years some Trinity parishioners have worked tirelessly on such projects. Now we are forming an Outreach Team to support those current efforts and to try to discern possible new ways of serving Christ on our island and in the world. Our first meeting will be on Tuesday March 24th at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity. All are welcome. If you would like to participate in this initiative, please contact me at 203-215-0135 or email me here.
Thank you,
Elizabeth Stevens

We continue collections for Lucy's Hearth, this week. Lucy's Hearth is a 24-hour emergency and transitional shelter in Newport County serving children and their families who are experiencing homelessness. We have supported Lucy's Hearth many times through our Pumpkin Patch, and they have a list of food needs that are tailored to families in particular. If you can bring any of the items from this list to church with you in the coming weeks, we will be sure to deliver the food to Lucy's Hearth. If you have questions about this effort, please email Diane Myers.
