The Nineteenth Sunday After Pentecost, October 19, 2025,

8 AM and 10 AM Worship

A message from the Rector

Along the walkway between Honeyman Hall and the Glenn Family Center a pumpkin plant has sprouted.

I didn’t recognize it as a pumpkin plant, of course. I’ve already come clean with you all about my lack of talent and skill when it comes to plant life. Instead I heard Norris mention it so I went out looking and sure enough I found the tiny little bulb with a yellow flower bursting from the end of the vine rests on the grass. There was no intentional planting of this pumpkin (Deb Lengyel confirms this fact), rather one of last year’s pumpkins simply left some seeds behind.

I don’t expect this vine will yield a pumpkin this year, but it serves as a beautiful reminder to me of the seeds that are planted in this community – knowingly or unknowingly - that burst to new life. Over these last months that I have been here as your rector I have watched thousands of people pass through this property: stopping in to visit our historic church, taking pictures with the pumpkins, making music on the lawn or in Honeyman Hall, attending weddings, and – of course – being with us for worship. God is planting seeds in this holy ground all the time. Much of the new life that bursts forth we get to see, especially lately. Some of the new life that emerges from the countless interactions on this property we may never see. Whether we see it or not, we keep tending the soil. We make space for the friend and the stranger. We exchange kindness and peace. We ask God to be present in this place over and over again. And whether we plan for it or not: new life arrives. Thanks be to God.

With gratitude for the harvest,

Meaghan
