Message from the Rector:
I spend a lot of time in the church choir loft lately.
Wednesday was another one of those days, as we welcomed several folks from the team from Fisk along with a specialist from Threshold, Inc to talk about air flow and humidity levels in and around the organ once it is in place.
While they were here, our friends from Fisk delivered the miniature model of Trinity Church that they have created. The model shows what the new organ will look like in the space and helps everyone to envision what will soon be in place in our church. Look how excited Fred and I are to have the model in the Hawes Room!
After church on Sunday Charles Nazarian, the architectural designer from Fisk, will be with us to talk through the model and explain the many steps that go into designing and constructing our organ. I have had the pleasure of hearing Charles speak before, and you won't want to miss this presentation.
I will be honest: diving headfirst into this organ project as your new rector has been overwhelming at times. It is a huge undertaking, and the process takes time and energy. There are moments when I wish I was having a "normal" first year at a parish, slowly taking the time to get to know all our members and systems.
When those moments arrive, I remind myself how exciting it is to be part of providing this gift to future generations at Trinity Church. While I will certainly benefit from the magnificent music that will be played from this new organ, that is not what grounds me in the importance of this effort. I like to imagine the children of our parish bringing their children to Trinity Church and being accompanied in their songs and praise to God by this magnificent instrument. We are doing something incredible for the generations that will follow us, and I'm grateful to be part of this effort with each of you.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
With gratitude,
Meaghan

Work on the Glenn Family Center
Over the past 6 weeks, we have been completing various work at the Glenn Family Center. First, there has been some "buckling" of the wood planks on the deck, resulting from ongoing climatization of the wood. We are addressing this with our contractor, Behan Brothers, who should be on-site for repairs in the coming weeks. Second, the gutters on the building collapsed due to ice dams during the winter snowstorms, they have been replaced and strengthened to prevent this happening again. Third, after conducting an air test, it was determined that the cellar and Mill Street conference room had elevated humidity and mold spore issues. Air quality in the Sunday School rooms and Parish Offices was also measured but not materially affected. Several pro-active steps have been taken to address any potential problems, most notably the installation of a professional dehumidification system (pictured here) which is now fully operational. Additional measures included professional removal/remediation of cellar wall surfaces left over from the Carr-Rice building, addition of HEPA air purifiers with air quality monitoring, removal of porous and upholstered items from the cellar, and professional cleaning and surface treatment. The professionals have advised us that this should rectify the issue, although we are also exploring additional foundation sealing and regrading the drainage between Honyman Hall and the Glenn Family Center to divert water from pooling around the foundation wall, work for which should start in the coming weeks.
For any questions, please direct them to the Senior Warden, Norris Commodore or the Junior Wardens Dan Cordeiro or Larry Pulice.

We continue collections for Lucy's Hearth, this week. Lucy's Hearth is a 24-hour emergency and transitional shelter in Newport County serving children and their families who are experiencing homelessness. We have supported Lucy's Hearth many times through our Pumpkin Patch, and they have a list of food needs that are tailored to families in particular. If you can bring any of the items from this list to church with you in the coming weeks, we will be sure to deliver the food to Lucy's Hearth. If you have questions about this effort, please email Diane Myers.
