The Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost,

September 8, 2024

8:00 a.m. & 10 a.m. Services

trinityrainbow

Having just completed my fifth month as Interim Rector, I am most impressed with how dedicated, hardworking and mature the vestry is in engaging God’s mission and securing the future of Trinity Church. To paraphrase James Brown, these are the hardest working folks in Church business.

Transitions between rectors are always challenging and the vestry continues to provide non-anxious leadership. They are thoughtful, creative, energetic and faithful in building up the solid foundations of parish life.

They need everyone’s participation in the days ahead. The parish meeting on Sept. 22 after the 10 a.m. service with Canon Dena from the Bishop’s staff is the first step to beginning the search for the next Rector, as is the second meeting on Oct. 20. Also, it’s Stewardship season and the time to make financial pledges for 2025, which will show any prospective Rector that there will be the resources available to be the Church Trinity is called to be. There can be no hesitation, no pulling back!

Listening for God's voice in the Sunday morning Bible study

When we finish a scripture in church, the reader says, "Hear what the Spirit is saying to God's people." Through meditating on a passage of scripture, we hear God still speaking. This is the goal of the Sunday morning Bible Study which now meets in Honyman Hall each Sunday at 9 a.m. Prepare by reading the passages in advance, click here.

Noon Healing Service

Join the Rev. Noël Robinson for a quiet service of reflection and prayer, with communion and the laying on hands for healing.

RECTOR SEARCH PROCESS UPDATE

Please plan to attend the following two very important Congregational Meetings which will be led by Canon Dena Cleaver-Bartholomew:

1.   Parish History Event on September 22nd. During this meeting, there will be a discussion about Trinity’s history to create a shared awareness that will assist in the creation of the profile and during the discernment process.

A light lunch will be provided.

Please note, on Sunday, Sept. 22, there will only be Morning Prayer at 8 a.m., to encourage all of the 8 a.m. regulars to attend the 10 a.m. service and subsequent meeting.

2.   Congregational Conversation on October 20th. During this meeting, members of the congregation will have the opportunity to answer 12 narrative questions. These answers will be used by the Profile team to create the Office of Transition Ministry Profile. A light lunch will be provided.

These meetings are very important to ensure we create a profile that properly represents Trinity Church to a potential candidate and defines what we desire in our next Rector.

If you have questions on the process, please contact me.

Calling all Silver Tea Crafters!

It’s hard to believe that summer is nearing the end and it’s already time for us to start thinking about one of Trinity’s longstanding traditions, our annual Silver Tea! This Christmas in Newport event is hosted by Trinity, and will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, from 1– 4 PM in the Hawes Room.

Do you have a secret talent that we don’t know about? Do you do needlecraft, sewing, knitting, painting, woodworking, jewelry making, ceramics, mixed media, or any other type of craft? If so, we are looking for your donation of handicrafts to be for sale on the artisan table at the tea!

If possible, please join us on Monday afternoons, beginning on September 16th, at 12:30 PM in the Hawes Room. Either bring your own project to work on and enjoy good company and fellowship, or help us to complete items that will be available on that day.

Consider joining us!   Chris Pimentel cap5182@cox.net

Trinity300

2026 will be a milestone of achievements and celebration for our church and the Newport community. The Trinity300 committee comprised of parishioners and leaders of many Newport non-profit organizations composed the following vision statement:

"The vision of Trinity300 is to identify, organize and successfully accomplish a series of events and offerings-in the year 2026-in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the building of historic Trinity Church, Newport. Continuing its role as a 'Welcoming Beacon' for our City and beyond, these will include lectures, exhibits, ceremonies, presentations, musical and artistic performances, social gatherings, parties and worship services."

We invite you to consider what you would like to see in this celebration and share ideas with us as we plan the events. Please indicate if you would be willing to volunteer. Please contact Jeff Clark or Bob Smith.
