The Trinity Church e-Tower

for

Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

August 23, 2026

8 AM and 10 AM Worship

Dear Friends,

Last weekend I had the chance to spend time with a friend I've known for many years. I met Caroline Cotter when we attended summer camp together at the Episcopal Conference Center (she often reminds me I was her counselor!) Caroline is a gifted singer and songwriter, and in recent years I have tried to see her perform as often as possible. Last week she was singing at a wedding in Newport, and after the gig we spent an evening at the beach. I told her about Trinity as we chatted, and she offered to come to the 8am service with her guitar to sing. Her song "The Answer" was such a lovely addition to our service, and I was delighted when she said she would join us again at the 10am service. I am so grateful to Michael Bahmann, who was so gracious about welcoming Caroline to the choir loft to add a song to communion.

So much care and planning goes into our worship each week, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Our planning helps those of us who lead worship to be reverent and ready to meet God. But as much as I will always value planning and preparation, I also rejoice when unexpected moments of spontaneity insert themselves into our time together. Caroline's presence at church last week was certainly one of those moments.

This coming Sunday we will baptize four children at our 10am service, and I imagine we will once again be surprised by something that happens at church. The presence of children and babies in our worship means that something unexpected can happen any time, and I welcome those moments, whatever they may be. Please join us while we welcome Cecilia, Benjamin, Harrison, and Henry into the household of God!

With gratitude,

Meaghan

PS. If you missed Caroline or want to hear more of her music, you can find her on all streaming platforms or at her website. Below is the song she sang for us last weekend!
