The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost,

July 21, 2024

8:00 a.m. & 10 a.m. Services

A KEY TO THE FUTURE

We all need pastoral care. We all have needs, doubts, and longings. Life balances moments of joy, bouts of loneliness, times of uncertainty, and times of feeling God’s grace and providence. When we face a crisis, we need a community to share the burden, just as we need a place to tell our good news among friends in rejoicing.

The word “Pastor” comes from Latin, meaning the “care of livestock,” and at Church, we understand the pastor to be the shepherd of the sheep, with Jesus as the “Good Shepherd” and us in the role of sheep. I’ve never liked thinking of myself as a sheep, but I get the point. In the Gospel this Sunday, Jesus takes pity on those following him, who are like “sheep without a shepherd.”

Yes, Trinity has “pastors” like Christine, Noel and me, but we must lift up that we are all pastors to each other, and that this is a true community of caring and transformation. That’s a key to Trinity’s future growth.

Listening for God's voice in the Sunday morning Bible study

When we finish a scripture in church, the reader says, "Hear what the Spirit is saying to God's people." Through meditating on a passage of scripture, we hear God still speaking. This is the goal of the Sunday morning Bible Study which now meets in Honyman Hall each Sunday at 9 a.m. Prepare by reading the passages in advance, click here.

Noon Healing Service

Join the Rev. Noël Robinson and Deacon Christine Cassels for a quiet service of reflection and prayer, with communion and the laying on hands for healing.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

The Trinity Altar Society is happy to assist you in providing flowers as a beautiful symbol of what we offer to God in our worship. Whether to honor a loved one’s memory, to celebrate a special occasion, or simply in thanksgiving, it only takes a phone call or an e-mail to Chris Pimentel, cap5182@cox.net or (401)683-5188.

Tower Lighting

The historic spire of Trinity Church is lit nightly. When you contribute to the cost of lighting, you may memorialize a person who has passed or give thanks for an event, like an anniversary or birthday. The traditional offering is $50, but please give as the Spirit moves! Contact Molly Chamberlain, Parishadmin@trinitynewport.org to make arrangements.
