Dear Friends,
Later this morning I will celebrate Juneteenth by attending the ribbon cutting for the Center for Black History, a new initiative from the Newport Historical Society. If you see this email before 10am, come join me! The Center is located in the Wanton-Lymnan-Hazard House (17 Broadway), the oldest house in Newport. The ribbon cutting begins at 10am.
On Sunday I will participate in a Service of Celebration and Blessing: an Interfaith Service, held in the yard beside the house. The service will take place at 1pm and will include prayers from various faith leaders, a Native American smudging ceremony, and the Pouring out of Libations, a West African Spiritual practice. You are welcomed and encouraged to join us at this service and celebrate and give thanks for the opening of this important institution in Newport.
If you are unable to attend the service or any of their other events, I hope you will make time to visit the Center for Black History on another day. Dr. Akeia de Barros Gomes, their Director, has crafted a thoughtful and important place to learn about the positive impact of Black history and culture in Newport.
Trinity has a wonderful partnership with the Newport Historical Society, especially in our Tricentennial year, and I am grateful for the opportunity we have to support their incredible work in Newport this weekend. I will be honored to stand alongside other people of faith to give thanks!
I look forward to seeing you Sunday - in church in the morning, at the Interfaith Service in the afternoon, and perhaps in the Balcony in the evening! What a day!
With gratitude,
Meaghan

Thank you!
Thank you to all our Strawberry Festival volunteers. We had a beautiful day and welcomed many guests to our campus. We sold hundreds of Strawberry Shortcakes and lemonades and Deb's Choc dipped strawberries. Our volunteers were energetic, enthusiastic and welcoming. And a special thank you to the wonderful lead group who stayed and worked all day. We had plenty of ripe berries and fun!

A note about Parking
The vestry has recently decided to stop the practice of parking on the lawn in front of our historic church building.
We are conscious that parking can be challenging when coming to Trinity. We will continue to work to make visitor and handicap parking available, and we will work towards creative solutions in the future! In the meantime we'd like to preserve the lawn and keep that area clear.
The pass for the Mary St. Lot can be downloaded off the internet or picked up in the back of the church on Sundays.
Thanks for your care with this matter!

A Trinity 300 Event
Friday, July 10
5:00 pm - 7:00 PM
Panel Discussion
Trinity Church in collaboration with the Newport Restoration Foundation invite you to a celebration of Queen Anne Square’s 50th anniversary.
Beginning in 1969, Trinity Church and the Newport Restoration Foundation worked closely with the Newport Redevelopment Agency to create a “square recalling the best of the nation’s colonial past for the inspiration of present and future generations.” The square was dedicated to the public in July of 1976 by Queen Elizabeth II and has remained an important communal space for public gathering and memory.
Join us in the Hawes Room in Honyman Hall for a conversation with a panelist of historians, scholars, and preservation leaders to reflect on the legacy of Queen Anne Square and the impact of the mid-century preservation movement on the city of Newport—and the United States.
A reception will follow on the deck of the Glenn Family Center, with light refreshments and jazz music presented by Puddingstone featuring the Alan Bernstein Quartet will follow the discussion.
While this program is free and open to all, we ask that you kindly rsvp here
The panel will be located in Honeyman Hall, but may be moved to the church if more space is needed. This program is part of Trinity Church’s 300th anniversary celebrations and is a Newport250 event, commemorating the story of our nation.
The panel includes:
Rebecca Bertrand, Executive Director of the Newport Historical Society
Trudy Coxe, CEO & Executive Director of the Preservation Society of Newport County
Ronald J. Onorato, Emeritus Professor of Art and Architectural History at the University of Rhode Island
Keith Stokes, Rhode Island Historian Laureate
Moderated by Gina Tangorra, Director of Engagement at the Newport Restoration Foundation

News from Trinity’s
Outreach Team
Our food drive for Lucy’s Hearth has concluded. Thank you to everyone who donated items to the food drive these past months. Food insecurity is a constant reality for some of our neighbors on Aquidneck Island. During the summer, we would like to encourage Trinity parishioners to make food donations to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center located at 20 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard in Newport. Through its Hunger Service program, the Center provides food in its food pantries, including a mobile food pantry, meal programs, and groceries delivered to homebound seniors. Food donations are accepted Monday-Friday between 8:30 and 5:00 P.M. The items most needed can be found here. (Scroll down to “Food Pantry Needs.”) Please help our parish answer God’s call to each of us to alleviate suffering in our communities. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me here Elizabeth. Thank you!
Elizabeth C. Stevens, on behalf of the Trinity Church Outreach Team
