A Message from the Rector:

In our Lenten series over the last four weeks we have had many holy conversations about death and dying. It has been a blessing to gather with some of the members of this community and consider what our faith teaches us about death, what our funerals might look like, and how we grieve. We will have our last class this evening - a conversation about how we remember those we love and how we want to be remembered. It is a fitting topic for Holy Week, when tomorrow evening we will remember how Jesus invited us to remember him through Eucharist, and gave us the mandate to love one another.

As we walk through Holy Week together, I want to share a poem that I offered in our class last week about grieving. Jan Richardson's book "A Cure for Sorrow" is a beautiful book of poetry about grief and loss. This particular poem below felt just right for this week, while we hold vigil with Jesus in his death. It is spiritually challenging and important to rest in this week of our Christian story without rushing to the resurrection. In these coming days, we grieve. We wait.

I hope to see you tomorrow at Emmanuel and Friday at Trinity, and when the time comes on Sunday morning, I look forward to our joyful proclamation that Christ is Risen!

With gratitude,

Meaghan

A Blessing for the Brokenhearted

There is no remedy for love but to love more. - Henry David Thoreau

Let us agree

for now

that we will not say

the breaking

makes us stronger

or that it is better

to have this pain

than to have done

without this love.

Let us promise

we will not

tell ourselves

time will heal

the wound,

when every day

our waking

opens it anew.

Perhaps for now

it can be enough

to simply marvel

at the mystery

of how a heart

so broken

can go on beating,

as if it were made

for precisely this—

as if it knows

the only cure for love

is more of it,

as if it sees

the heart’s sole remedy

for breaking

is to love still,

as if it trusts

that its own

persistent pulse

is the rhythm

of a blessing

we cannot

begin to fathom

but will save us

nonetheless.

Our Legacy:

A Cherished, Historic

Treasury of Silver.

Among the many physical and tangible assets

and treasures that Trinity has been blessed with over the centuries is a collection of fine silver. Since 1703, with the first gift of a chalice and patten sent by the governing body of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, the church has been the beneficiary of blessings in the form of memorial, gifted and commissioned liturgical silver that is still in regular use today.

Since the first recorded evidence in 1880—and likely before—a quiet, committed and faithful group of parishioners have prepared, maintained and cared for our sacred silver—vessels and other precious items—lovingly stewarding theircondition and availability for all manner of worship services and rites of the church. The Altar Society of Trinity Church is responsible for this collection that represents significant artistic, historical and community value—serving as enduring “crown jewels” that have recorded our history of faith and devotion for over three centuries.

On April 12th, a “Silver Sunday” presentation will take place, after coffee hour, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, where we will have the opportunity to see, learn about and discuss some highlighted items in depth. Our very own Mary Sinnott, longtime “Directress” of the Altar Society and visiting silver expert Spencer Gordon, will bring these curated items from our silver collection to life, in terms of their significance, provenance, quality and the underlying human story. Please join us as we experience together a rare glimpse into our past and the faithfully departed who inhabit it!
