Episcopal Charities of Rhode Island

This is the logo for Episcopal Charities of Rhode Island. It has the anchor from the Diocesan seal, and Alpha and Omega on either arm of the anchor to remind us that Charities does the work that Jesus asks of us.

I have been a Board Member of Charities since I came back to RI almost thirteen years ago, and am very proud of the way Charities has supported care-giving and life-giving agencies and programs around the state. Charities has an annual grant program to which agencies apply, and grants are given at the end of the year. The MLK Center receives grants from Charities, and has been given emergency funding for failing kitchen equipment. Seaman’s Church Institute has received Charities funding. That end of the year grant was found wanting for small programs with immediate needs, such as church food pantries and feeding programs. A few years ago Charities Now! was started to give small grants throughout the year to programs that help feed people, especially parish-based programs.

Canon Betsy Fornal, Director of Episcopal Charities, reported today that Charities Now! Easter grants of $1000 each went to 20 parishes with food programs. And that kind of funding goes on all year long, as long as there is funding for Charities Now! As soon as money comes in it is sent out where needed.

Betsy is sending me some Charities brochures to share with you, and I will probably write about it again, and perhaps you’ll hear about Charities in a sermon someday. I hope that you will join me in supporting Charities to help with food, shelter, medical care, and more all over Rhode Island.

To make a donation, click here or go to Episcopalri.org and find Charities in the “Ministry” section. And that reminds me, I think I’ll make another donation right now. And I’m happy to answer questions you have about Charities.

Blessings all, Noel Robinson, Parish Associate

Rector Search Process

As you are aware, we are making progress in our search for a new Rector. The Search Team has been in conversation with several candidates. This is a very important step to ensure we select a Rector that will help Trinity achieve its future goals. One of our challenges, as stated by Rt. Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely during his visit last Sunday, is that there is a very limited number of candidates. This means the team needs to select someone that meets our needs and convince the candidate that we can meet their needs.

As a congregation, we will have a responsibility to ensure the success of the new Rector. As Rev. Tim Safford has stated, early in his career his congregations worked to ensure his success. We will need to make the same commitment to our new Rector. If our new Rector is successful in helping us live our Mission, we will be successful in helping our members and the community.

Here are some actions I think we can take to ensure the Rector’s success: (1) Have open and honest communications with the Rector and other members of the congregation; (2) Be open to change; and (3) Remember that the whole is more important than the one (for us Star Trek fans).

Our mission: We are a Christian community of faith, responding to God's call for us, engaging in the needs of our parish community and the world, and building for the future.

Trinity Serves Capital Campaign

Trinity Serves Capital Campaign

In an attempt to ensure that Trinity will not have a mortgage after the completion of the new Education and Administration Building, please consider helping us meet the announced $75K Matching Challenge sponsored by members of the Congregation. The objective is to match $75K by Trinity Sunday, June 15th. The current projection is that we will have a July move-in date. We still need to raise an additional $100K to ensure that we will not need a mortgage after completion. While a donation in any amount would be greatly appreciated, please consider funding one of the following items. Help us add the finishing touches to our new Education and Administration Building.
