The Trinity Church e-Tower

for

Second Sunday after Pentecost

June 7, 2026

8 AM and 10 AM Worship

Dear Friends,

Trinity Sunday was an incredible morning for Trinity Church.

Months of work by so many people went into creating our worship and celebration last Sunday, and every minute of that work and care was made evident as we gathered to pray and give thanks and to be together.

I admit to being at a loss for words, but I think the photos captured by Jillian at Blanket Fort Creative help capture some of what the morning was like: full of joy, worship, music, feasting, and love. We will continue to share more photos, but I included a selection of them here.

You can also see the morning highlighted on Channel 12 news, or written about in Newport This Week.

I am so grateful to everyone who made the morning possible, a list of folks too long to name here. Thank you for creating a once in a generation memory for a church that has stood fast for so many generations before us. May God give us the grace to do the work he has given us to do for the generations still to come.

With gratitude,

Meaghan

Our Legacy...

The Trinity Choir

As the memory of the extraordinary Trinity Sunday still remains with us through this week, we end another season of splendid music with choir, organ and instruments. We give thanks and gratitude to our Music Directors, Fred Jodry and Michael Bahmann for their expertise, dedication and guidance—we are twice blessed!

Since the arrival of the first organ in 1733, Trinity has enjoyed choirs in many forms over the centuries. The first mention of a choir is from 1810, when “The organ loft was to be enlarged to accommodate the singers and chanters of sacred music.” A boy choir was first instituted in 1860 and many children and adults have contributed to the transcendent way in which we worship through music over the generations. Sometimes, simple and spare and, at other times, complex—with rich harmonies that rise like incense in the morning light, carrying the heavy burdens of the earth into the rafters of grace.

Below, is a montage of historic and recent Trinity images of those who, through music, engage both heart and mind, making praise and prayer more poignant and joyful. One among us—for over 70 years—voice raised in faith-filled song, was Stan Brown, who retired from the choir last year. He remembers how well-pleased the boys were in the 1950’s not to be made to wear the scratchy, ruff collar any longer (harkening back to the 16th c. Tudor era)! He sang, as did so many before him, with a commitment that helped Trinity choir maintain its long-held excellent reputation. His photo is the final one.

As the famous phrase, attributed to St. Augustine imparts, “he who sings, prays twice!”

 Panel Discussion

Trinity Church in collaboration with the Newport Restoration Foundation invite you to a celebration of Queen Anne Square’s 50th anniversary.

Beginning in 1969, Trinity Church and the Newport Restoration Foundation worked closely with the Newport Redevelopment Agency to create a “square recalling the best of the nation’s colonial past for the inspiration of present and future generations.” The square was dedicated to the public in July of 1976 by Queen Elizabeth II and has remained an important communal space for public gathering and memory.

Join us for a conversation with a panelist of historians, scholars, and preservation leaders to reflect on the legacy of Queen Anne Square and the impact of the mid-century preservation movement on the city of Newport—and the United States.

A reception with light refreshments and jazz music presented by Puddingstone featuring the Alan Bernstein Quartet will follow the discussion.

While this program is free and open to all, we ask that you kindly rsvp here

This program is part of Trinity Church’s 300th anniversary celebrations and is a Newport250 event, commemorating the story of our nation.

The panel includes:

Rebecca Bertrand, Executive Director of the Newport Historical Society

Trudy Coxe, CEO & Executive Director of the Preservation Society of Newport County

Ronald J. Onorato, Emeritus Professor of Art and Architectural History at the University of Rhode Island

Keith Stokes, Rhode Island Historian Laureate

Moderated by Gina Tangorra, Director of Engagement at the Newport Restoration Foundation

News from Trinity’s

 Outreach Team

Our food drive for Lucy’s Hearth has concluded. Thank you to everyone who donated items to the food drive these past months. Food insecurity is a constant reality for some of our neighbors on Aquidneck Island. During the summer, we would like to encourage Trinity parishioners to make food donations to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center located at 20 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard in Newport. Through its Hunger Service program, the Center provides food in its food pantries, including a mobile food pantry, meal programs, and groceries delivered to homebound seniors. Food donations are accepted Monday-Friday between 8:30 and 5:00 P.M. The items most needed can be found here. (Scroll down to “Food Pantry Needs.”) Please help our parish answer God’s call to each of us to alleviate suffering in our communities. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me here Elizabeth. Thank you!
