All Saints Day
I don’t associate October 31st with Halloween as much as I do with the day, in 1517, that Martin Luther nailed to the Wittenberg church door his 95 theses contradicting the Church’s teaching on saints and sainthood.
For Luther, saints weren’t people who had been so holy before God that they earned enough “extra credit” that could be transferred to sinners like you and me (for a small fee, or “indulgence”). Rather, saints were rather ordinary people who possessed such an attaractional faith and encouraging spirit to set aflame God’s presence within the kindling present in every human heart.
“You can meet them in school, or in lanes, or at sea,” goes the old hymn, “for the saints of God are just folk like me, and I mean to be one, too.”
Here’s an image that might work for Trinity, with its long, elegant balconies. I imagine the saints to be those in the balcony of our lives, looking over us, and cheering us on. These balcony saints are the ones who can tell us that we can, we’re worthy, we’re smart enough, good enough and lovable. These balcony saints inspire and motivate, long after they have finished the earthly race.
Who is in your balcony, cheering you on?
Timothy Safford, Interim Rector

Listening for God's voice in the Sunday morning Bible study
When we finish a scripture in church, the reader says, "Hear what the Spirit is saying to God's people." Through meditating on a passage of scripture, we hear God still speaking. This is the goal of the Sunday morning Bible Study which now meets in Honyman Hall each Sunday at 9 a.m. Prepare by reading the passages in advance, click here.

Final Graveyard Clean up for 2024
Our final graveyard workshop is scheduled for this Saturday, November 2 starting at 10:00 am. Jimmy Lappin will be on hand to demonstrate how to give a final winter coat of D2 (an environmental cleaning solution) to the 100 stones that have been treated and cleaned over the last several years. Kudos to Jimmy and our team of caretakers!
We will also be doing a cleanup in preparation for Veterans Day week, when we traditionally display historically accurate, period flags on our veterans‘ graves.
Click here to contact Charlotte Johnson if you’d like to help. Thank you!
