The Trinity Church e-Tower

for the

Second Sunday after the Epiphany

January 18, 2026

8 AM and 10 AM Worship

A message from the Rector

Exactly two hours before the start of our Celebration of New Ministry on January 6th, Peter Berton (Director of the Choir School of Newport County, pictured here) arrived on the property with an Epiphany star. Fred and I had hoped to hang a star in the opening where our organ once resided, and somehow Peter procured one and got to Trinity with just enough time to climb a ladder and hang it before the service began.

The star will remain in its spot in the choir loft until the end of our Epiphany season (Feb 15th) so there will be ample opportunity to see it when you come to church. Be sure to look up and back when you come into the building. The star reminds us of the Magi following its light to the Christ child, but it also represents Christ’s light in and throughout our lives, especially in our darkest moments.

There is plenty of darkness lately: literally, in the night that falls before the clock strikes 5pm, and figuratively, as we continue to navigate a world that is so often full of fear, grief, and despair. Our modern media is fueled by that darkness, so if we aren’t careful we can easily become overwhelmed.

Epiphany reminds us that the light of Christ is constant, and the darkness cannot overcome it. The word means “to reveal”, and I know that if we pay attention, we will see God revealed all around us: in nature, in worship, in song, in prayer, in twinkling stars, in laughter, in shared meals, and in good friends -who arrive just on time to deliver unexpected joys.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, look for the light. I know you will find it. I have certainly seen the light of Christ in each of you!

With gratitude,

Meaghan

Celebrating Trinity's Tricentennial Year

This year our church building is 300 years old—forever linked to being fifty years older than the founding of the nation—it clearly calls for celebration! A half-century ago, in 1976, during America’s Bicentennial—Trinity and Newport celebrated in style—with special events, solemn and festive worship services, Tall Ships, a Royal Visit and dedication of Queen Anne Square, welcoming dignitaries (including President Ford) and a summer filled with civic pride, patriotism and prayerfulness.

The Trinity300 Committee has been at work, for two years, preparing to honor our history, our treasures, our traditions, our campus and our landmark sanctuary—and share it all with Newport and our many expected visitors.

We will be offering a wide-range of programming—primarily through the summer months—that may be enjoyed by the parishioner, resident and visitor alike. While several aspects are being finalized and subject to adjustment, please view the exciting schedule of events we have in store. We will be updating our community with additional developments and adjustments, as they happen, and look forward to enjoying a year of celebration with all of you.

We invite you to consider volunteering and/or assisting our efforts financially to defray the costs of these events (honoraria, receptions, musicians, printing, mailings, etc.), as these expenses are not part of our yearly operating budget. If you would like to participate, please consider “$300 for 300” or any amount that may be appropriate for you. A donation link is available on our website, or you can send a check to the church with "Trinity 300" in the memo line.

Thank you and Happy 300!

Upcoming Events and Ministry Opportunities

We continue collections for Lucy's Hearth, this week. Lucy's Hearth is a 24-hour emergency and transitional shelter in Newport County serving children and their families who are experiencing homelessness. We have supported Lucy's Hearth many times through our Pumpkin Patch, and they have a list of food needs that are tailored to families in particular. If you can bring any of the items from this list to church with you in the coming weeks, we will be sure to deliver the food to Lucy's Hearth. If you have questions about this effort, please email Diane Myers.
