Who is Jesus for Trinity?
Jesus asked his disciples: “Who do you say that I am?” Only Peter answered rightly (as we hear this Sunday), when he blurted out, “You are the Christ.”
Trinity must answer the same question, forcefully and articulately, in the months ahead.
How will Trinity testify to its trust in the Christ through collective action? Can we show a skeptical world that God is alive and present in our lives, emboldening us, assuring us, and guiding us?
Churches concerned about their future have a tendency toward group anxiety. Will we grow? Have enough money? Get more kids in Sunday School? Solutions are sought through better techniques: more lively music, better coffee, scintillating social gatherings, and the like.
However, what makes a church attractive is a palpable sense of God’s presence in people’s lives.
When was the last time God surprised you with grace and abundant love? Can you share that with others, and invite them to join you in the place where you celebrate God?
Timothy Safford, Interim Rector

Homecoming Picnic Sunday
After 10:00AM Service
Join our fabulous community to celebrate the start of a new Church Year. Please note that Trinity has a terrific opportunity to videotape the Homecoming event. The videographer will be on-site as part of the filmmaking process for the rector search (and other uses). It will be a wonderful way for us to showcase and share what we love about the Trinity community.
The videographer will focus primarily on the barbecue and some parishioner interviews, but also some aspects of the choir/music program and potentially also Bible Study and Sunday School (subject to parental waivers). Donna and I will be coordinating directly with the different heads of each group/ministries.
We are not looking for stars or actors but a way to share our community on video. If you are uncomfortable with video cameras, please let someone on the Vestry know.
-Dan Cordeiro and Donna Ellis

Calling all Silver Tea Crafters!
It’s hard to believe that summer is nearing the end and it’s already time for us to start thinking about one of Trinity’s longstanding traditions, our annual Silver Tea! This Christmas in Newport event is hosted by Trinity, and will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, from 1– 4 PM in the Hawes Room.
Do you have a secret talent that we don’t know about? Do you do needlecraft, sewing, knitting, painting, woodworking, jewelry making, ceramics, mixed media, or any other type of craft? If so, we are looking for your donation of handicrafts to be for sale on the artisan table at the tea!
If possible, please join us on Monday afternoons, beginning on September 16th, at 12:30 PM in the Hawes Room. Either bring your own project to work on and enjoy good company and fellowship, or help us to complete items that will be available on that day.

2026 will be a milestone of achievements and celebration for our church and the Newport community. The Trinity300 committee comprised of parishioners and leaders of many Newport non-profit organizations composed the following vision statement:
"The vision of Trinity300 is to identify, organize and successfully accomplish a series of events and offerings-in the year 2026-in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the building of historic Trinity Church, Newport. Continuing its role as a 'Welcoming Beacon' for our City and beyond, these will include lectures, exhibits, ceremonies, presentations, musical and artistic performances, social gatherings, parties and worship services."
We invite you to consider what you would like to see in this celebration and share ideas with us as we plan the events. Please indicate if you would be willing to volunteer. Please contact Jeff Clark or Bob Smith.
