Trinity Sunday

On Trinity Sunday, it’s fitting that the opening hymn has us proclaim,

“I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity,

by invocation of the same, the Three in One, and One in Three.”

I always do best with the doctrine of the Trinity when I don’t think about it, but just embrace it (I guess that is the same as “Binding”). I’ve been helped this week by a quote from Pope Benedict: “To be sure, we do not possess the truth, the truth possesses us.” Similarly, the Trinity possesses me.

On a personal note, I sang the words of this great hymn, attributed to St. Patrick of Ireland himself, on June 15th 1985, at my ordination forty years ago! If you see me tearing up, you’ll know why.

New Building and Challenge Match Update

So, thank you to all those who have stepped up to help. We still have a Capital Campaign Matching Challenge to raise $75,000 by Trinity Sunday, June 15th. So far, we have gotten $54,425 in new donations in response to this challenge.

Please consider helping us raise the remaining funds to complete the new building. Right now, it looks as though we will need to activate the line of credit to pay bills after July.

Sunday Afternoon Jazz, June 15th at 3PM

Trinity Church Reading Group: The next meeting will be June 16, 2025 at 5PM. This group will be reading The Secret Life of Sunflowers, by Marta Molnar. The book is about a Hollywood auctioneer, Emsley Wilson, who finds the diary of Vincent van Gogh’s sister-in-law, Johanna Bonger. who has inherited Van Gogh’s paintings. Bonger was a young widow with a baby and very poor. Although she has inherited these paintings they are not worth very much much. But somehow, in the end, Johanna Bonger introduces Van Gogh’s legacy to the world. The book has been described as one of the most beautiful stories with all of the emotions from tears to lightheartedness.

The search committee is happy to report that we are in the final stages of our process. While we know everyone is anxious to know who our new rector will be, we ask for your patience for just a little more time. There are just a few more pieces that need to be in place before we can make an announcement.
