CONSIDER RUNNING FOR POSITION ON PGA of BC BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The PGA of BC Board of Directors encourages all qualified members to consider putting their name forward as a candidate for board position terms that will commence in 2023.

There could be up to four (4) openings on the board becoming available via election in the new year. The individuals filling these positions will be determined by a membership vote taking place in late January.

Regional quotas will be confirmed closer to the formal voting period. All positions are two-year terms. Candidates must be Class "A" Professionals to be eligible to hold a board position.

A formal call for candidacies will be made in early January.
R&A and USGA ANNOUNCE 2023 RULES OF GOLF UPDATE
Earlier this week, The R&A and the USGA unveiled a regular update to the Rules of Golf as they continue to make the Rules easier to understand and apply. The new Rules will go into effect on January 1, 2023.

The 2023 edition continues the modernisation process, with an emphasis on both inclusion and sustainability. For the first time, the modified Rules for players with disabilities have been fully incorporated into the playing rules without the need to adopt a local rule. The governing bodies, supported by longstanding partner Rolex, will also promote digital and mobile app access to the Rules while significantly reducing the production and distribution of more than four million printed books.

Several penalties have been relaxed and language has been clarified to help golfers at all levels of play. Key changes include:
  • Modifications for Players with Disabilities
  • Handicap Usage in Stroke Play
  • Club Damaged During Round
  • Ball Moved by Natural Forces
  • Back-on-the-Line Relief Procedure

Golfers will be able to learn more about the major changes and review the official 2023 Rules of Golf by visiting randa.org and usga.org/rules. Full updates to the official Rules of Golf digital applications will be available starting on January 1, 2023. Fore more information, please click the below.
OFFERS TO HOST PGA of BC CHAMPIONSHIPS & EVENTS WELCOMED
As the PGA of BC administration team looks to secure future venues for PGA of BC championships or other events, all members are encouraged to advise of their interest in hosting the Association for an event in seasons to come.

Hosting a PGA of BC championship tournament or other event is a tremendous way to showcase your facility to your colleagues and other members of BC's golf industry and community. As a great example of how hosting a PGA of BC event can raise the profile of your facility amongst your peers, seven of the past nine recipients of the Association's member-determined Golf Facility of the Year Award have earned the honour during a year in which they hosted a PGA of BC or PGA of Canada championship.

Although our events and championships generally occupy the same weeks on the calendar from year-to-year, the administration team is pleased to work with your facility to ensure a successful event for all involved. For reference, click here to review the PGA of BC's 2022 schedule of events.

Please direct any inquiries or expressions of interest to PGA of BC Membership & Events Manager Doug Titterington at doug@pgabc.org. When doing so, please indicate the events or championships for which you have interest, as well as which future season you may be able to accommodate.
OFFICE CLOSURE NOTICE

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- GRAEME KREINER
Head Professional, Golden Golf Club

What is the most rewarding part about being a member of the PGA of BC?
The camaraderie amongst fellow Professionals. The industry can be challenging on a daily basis, but the support PGA of BC Members show each other allows us to get through those difficult moments.

If you had to share one piece of advice with a new member of our Association, what would it be?
Never stop educating yourself. Education can be done through reading (doesn’t have to just be golf or business books or articles), a phone call with an experienced Golf Professional or mentor, and educational courses just to name a few areas.

What is a common misconception that golfers make about what your job entails?
We play a lot of golf and have the winters off. Like most Golf Professionals, I struggle to find time to play nearly as much as I would like. The winters are a different kind of busy, basically it is about getting everything to press print as once the season starts there is not much time for planning.

What is an interesting fact about yourself that doesn't involve golf?
When I was younger, and trying to avoid the golf industry, I started my private pilot license. My first flight lesson was supposed to be Sept. 11th, 2001. Obviously, the flight that day was cancelled and kind of served as a sign to stop avoiding what I knew deep down I should be doing.
FACT OF THE WEEK
Did you know that the PGA of BC keeps a comprehensive database of each of the PGA of BC's eight active championships as well as retired events, summarized on the PGA of BC Championship History Hub?

A complete listing of winners and venues from tournaments hosted in the Association's modern era (1970-present, coinciding with the inaugural PGA of BC Championship) can be found on the Championship Hub, including Assistants' Championship results dating back even further. Final scoring, runners-up and more information is provided if available.

Please contact the administration office if you are able to help us complete any of the information missing from past years on these pages.
