Every year, The Chicago Reader publishes its Best of Chicago issue, where Chicagoans nominate their favorite people, places, and things that make our city great. The nomination period is open now through October 26. After that, the top nominees will be tallied and move on to the final voting round! The top five nominees in each category (more if there are ties, fewer if there aren’t enough nominees) will make it onto the official voting ballot.
Take a moment to nominate your favorite Lakeview East businesses and give them the recognition they deserve!

Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming not just a new hotel, but also a hidden speakeasy to the neighborhood! The Den Hotel, located at 3222 N Sheffield, brings new life to a classic 1920s Graystone. The exterior still holds all its historic charm, while the interior has been fully renovated from top to bottom. With freshly painted walls, brand-new furnishings in every room, and modern appliances throughout, the new enthusiastic owners are literally opening the door for you to come in! Guests will appreciate the convenience of contactless check-in and check-out—perfect for a seamless stay, without missing out on comforts like room service delivered right to their door. It’s like hotel hospitality meets the cozy feel of an Airbnb.
And tucked away on the ground floor? The Blind Wolf, a stylish new speakeasy that’s open to both hotel guests and the public. This intimate, romantic lounge features a creative craft cocktail menu and hosts a daily Happy Hour from 5–7 PM with 25% off your entire bill. Whether you're staying the night or just stopping by for a drink, The Den Hotel and The Blind Wolf are two new gems you won’t want to miss!
