It’s all about more music, more fun, and soaking up the summer vibes in the heart of Lakeview East.

COOK COUNTY ASSESSOR INCREASES

COMMERCIAL PROPERTY TAXES BY 25%

Did you know the Assessor’s office increased commercial from 10% to 25% on some mixed-use buildings and changed the way they apply assessments?

Mixed-use commercial/residential building with apartment and commercial area totaling 7 units or more or between 20,000 to 99,999 square feet of building area, with the commercial component of the property consisting of no more than 35% of the total rentable square footage.

Please read the FACT SHEET HERE for more information.

The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce has reached out to the Assessor's office to discuss the negative impact on small businesses this will have in our commercial district. We cannot sustain small businesses and keep our vacancy rates low if the government continues to put more financial challenges on our small businesses and property owners. Business tenants pay triple net leases with property taxes being the unknown equation every reassessed year. Alderman Lawson will be working with the Chambers in his ward and the Assessor's office to discuss the impact this has on our district.

Overview of Chicago’s Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance and Cook County's Paid Leave Ordinance

April 16th 2024, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

Presented by Miguel Campos, Director, Office of Labor Standards and Jennifer King, Director, Department of Human Rights and Ethics.

On November 9, 2023, the Chicago City Council passed the Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance. Chicago's Ordinance guarantees up to five days of paid time off and five days of paid sick leave for all of Chicago’s workers.

On December 14, 2023 the Cook County Board of Commissioners passed the Cook County Paid Leave Ordinance. The County's Ordinance ensures covered employees earn at least 1 hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked that can be used for any reason of the employee's choosing.

Employers and workers are encouraged to join this webinar for an overview of the Chicago's and the County's Ordinances as well as the differences between the two. Topics discussed will include eligibility, accrual rates, potential payouts, carryover, employee usage, and employer paid time off policies. In addition, there will be a Q&A session at the end.
