Al fresco at last! One of our most highly requested events, Dine Out on Broadway, is back starting next weekend. For three weekends this summer, we are closing Broadway to traffic and allowing restaurants to extend their patios into the streets. Bring the kids and their sidewalk chalk, your pups on a leash, and your sunglasses and SPF, and soak up summer fun while it's here!
On Saturday, June 14th, Alderman Bennett Lawson is having his Annual Kids Bike Parade at the Dine Out! Meet at Broadway & Belmont at 8:45 am, and the parade will go to Broadway and Wellington and back. HELMETS ARE MANDATORY TO PARTICIPATE. Decorated bikes are encouraged, and water and light snacks will be provided!
| | | | For the past 45 years, Gwen Ford-Nino has been keeping the crosswalks in the Lakeview East safe, but has been at the corner of Halsted and Belmont for the past 20 years! Two weeks ago, CPS honored 700 crossing guards who play a critical role in safeguarding students as they travel to and from school at the Annual Crossing Guard Appreciation Day event. Four crossing guards were named Crossing Guards of the Year, recognized for their dedication, reliability, and impact on the community, nominated by students, families, schools, and local businesses. The always-smiling Gwen Ford-Nino won Crossing Guard of the Year for the north region! “Crossing guards like Ms. Ford-Nino, who for 45 years has guided students with a wave and a smile, are the heart of our safety mission,” said CPS Chief Operating Officer Charles Mayfield. “They not only protect our students but also strengthen the bonds within our communities.” A huge congratulations to Gwen for this incredible achievement- and a HUGE THANK YOU for serving the community for over four decades! We are so lucky to have Gwen in the neighborhood. Be sure to congratulate her next time you see her at post! | | | | |
Chicago’s Restaurant Resilience: Grubhub Honors Pandemic-Born Businesses That Beat the Odds, Including Musashiya Ramen
Last night, we had the pleasure of attending a special ceremony hosted by Grubhub, celebrating 31 exceptional restaurants that opened their doors during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and have not only survived, but thrived, five years later. Among these standout establishments is one of our very own neighborhood gems: Musashiya Ramen.
“These ‘Established 2020’ honorees capture what makes Chicago’s restaurant scene so special — hardworking, community-focused, and full of heart,” said Lisa Belot, Director of Corporate Affairs at Grubhub. Owner Yan Zheng embodies all of those qualities. Against all odds, she has poured passion, perseverance, and purpose into every bowl, keeping her dream alive and her customers coming back for more. Open Tuesday through Sunday, Musashiya has become a local favorite for its rich ramen, flavorful tsukemen, comforting Japanese curry rice and udon, and classic appetizers like gyoza and geso karaage. A huge congratulations to Yan and her team at Musashiya Ramen for five successful years- and cheers to many more!
