Breaking Ground at John Kelly Park

This past Monday, we were honored to have attended the Ground Breaking Ceremony of John Kelly Park, as it's preparing for a total glow-up. You’ve walked past John H. Kelly Park a hundred times, but do you know its story? This long, narrow park holds layers of Lakeview history, from a fallen WWII soldier to a once-thriving Japanese American community, and now a community-driven redesign 30 years in the making. Read the full story and see what’s coming next.

The park is located at 3800 N Sheridan

Chanukah Happenings

Hanukkah is officially lighting up Lakeview East, and this year’s lineup has range. We’re talking cozy candle lightings, full-on community parties, latkes in all their glorious forms, brisket situations, desserts you’ll “just have one more” of, and at least one event that ends with bowling or a car parade. Whether you’re celebrating with family, friends, or your entire group chat, there’s something happening pretty much every night. Here’s where to be, what to eat, and how to celebrate all eight nights around the neighborhood.

Christmas Eve in LVE

Christmas Eve in the neighborhood always hits a little differently. It’s that perfect mix of cozy and chaotic where everyone is running around pretending they’re prepared while secretly Googling “last-minute gift ideas” with a coffee in hand. There are the caffeine emergencies, the surprise workouts we suddenly feel inspired to do, the very real hope that someone else is handling dinner, and the obligatory stop for something sweet before the family marathon begins. Whether you’re finishing your to-do list or just avoiding it entirely, the neighborhood has plenty of places ready to keep you moving.

What's Open Christmas Day

Whether you’re ready to unwind with a well-earned drink after a long morning entertaining out-of-town family, hoping to skip the stress of cooking, or relying on a triple latte to power you through a full day of festivities, you’re not on your own. A handful of neighborhood businesses are opening their doors on Christmas Day, offering everything from comforting meals to much-needed caffeine. These local spots are here to keep you fueled, relaxed, and supported, so you can focus on enjoying the holiday, whatever your version of Christmas looks like.

Vote for Lakeview East!

Everyone is eligible to vote, so cast your ballot and show your support for the incredible local businesses that make Lakeview East such a vibrant and special place.

A new Mediterranean spot has arrived on Clark Street, just a few blocks from Wrigley Field! Galata Mediterranean opened its doors last week and is inviting the neighborhood to come check it out. Taking over the former PS Bangkok space, Galata is serving up fresh, house-made Mediterranean favorites. Warm up with a hearty beef stew, or dig into lamb chops, kebabs, doner, chicken adana, and plenty more. Don’t skip dessert, everything is made in house, and the rice pudding we tried was absolutely phenomenal. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Galata is perfect for a quick lunch to go or a relaxed meal you can linger over!
