Holiday Tree Lighting
It's lit! Mark your calendars for November 28th as we come together for our annual neighborhood tree lighting event. This year, we're thrilled to announce a unique twist – our magnificent tree will shine brightly in the heart of the Clark Street Dog lot for the very first time. Positioned between Clark and Halsted, you'll have the opportunity to admire this stunning tree from multiple vantage points.
During the tree lighting, we will have carolers, treats, and tons of holiday spirit to spread. Santa Claus will even be making an appearance! Don't miss this luminous celebration- and bring the whole family! Stick around afterwards for a fun party with light bites and beverages at Clark Street Dog.

Time Off Ordinance
The new ordinance, which was approved by the Chicago City Council's Workforce Development Committee, introduces specific provisions that outline how paid leave will be granted to employees in the city.
Under this ordinance, employees will accrue one hour of paid sick time for every 35 hours worked, capped at 40 hours per year. Additionally, employees will accrue one hour of paid time off (PTO) for every 35 hours worked, also capped at 40 hours per year.
Employers are granted the authority to request documentation after an employee takes three consecutive days of sick time. They can also establish pre-approval policies for PTO. The vote was deferred to Thursday for city council to vote on the ordinance at 4 pm.

Introduction to Express Building Permits
Presented by Chicago Department of Buildings
Building permits protect public health and safety and help to prevent work by unlicensed and unqualified contractors. At the Department of Buildings, we know that the quicker and more user-friendly we make the permitting and inspection process, the more people will obtain necessary permits.
The Department of Buildings is excited to launch our web-based Express Permit Program on November 6, 2023. The Express Permit Program will provide a new, improved way for home and building owners to obtain building permits needed to repair or replace existing features of a building or undertake specific small improvement projects, such as adding residential solar panels.
Join the Department of Buildings for a demonstration of the Express Permit Program website, and a preview of the Guide to Building Permits website, which will be fully rolled out over the next few months.
