June is a month of summer fun and celebrations of our unique identities.
Pride Month celebrates the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexed, asexual and other identities) community by showing respect and support for one another.
Respect and support come in many forms but can be as simple as acknowledging one’s pronouns. Learn more about gender identity and pronouns at The Trevor Project.
A 2021 national survey found that LGBTQIA+ youth who live in affirming spaces often have higher self-esteem and more positive mental health outcomes!
As a caring adult, teacher, parent/guardian, family member, friend, or ally, there are many different local Orange County resources that will help you support the LGBTQIA+ Community: Our partners at APAIT in Orange County provide many different opportunities for education, collaboration and community support. If you're looking for school-age focused support, you may find the OC Student Mental Health Resource Directory LGBTQ Youth Resources which can be found on the OC Student Mental Health Resource Directory.
If you or someone you know is living with a mental health condition and who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and/or questioning (LGBTQ), it’s important to help them to prioritize mental health. LGBTQIA+ adults are more than twice as likely as heterosexual adults to experience a mental health condition and LGBTQIA+ individuals are at a higher risk than the general population for suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts.
| | APAIT believes that health and wellness is for all. They are dedicated to providing no-cost, high-quality, and culturally sensitive services.
