Stella is a very sweet girl.
She was used to sleeping in a human bed, not being in a cold shelter with hundreds of barking dogs.
Shelter employees reached out to tell us that Stella was not doing well after just one night in the shelter.
So we got her out of there and took her to our vet.
While she was on the spay table, our veterinarian called me.
He told me that he thought she might be pregnant. He wanted to know what we wanted to do.
I told him to sew her back up, that we are having babies!
I told him that whenever we have puppies, which in rescue happens only once in a very blue moon, we save the puppies for people who are grieving the loss of a pet or a person in their lives, within the last 6 months.
It's called the Puppies for Grievers program.
All puppies are adopted with a strict spay/neuter agreement, by the time the babies are six months old.
You may ask who enforces this?
Our Board of Trustees enforces it and if anyone is in violation of this agreement, I am on a plane with legal paperwork in hand.
Would I really do that? I have and I will!
Our babies will not be contributing to the over population of pets. Not on our watch.
We moved Stella to Michigan for foster care with long time volunteer, and Michigan Team Leader. Dawn Mead.
Sooo...you wanna see the babies?!!
OK! There are five count them FIVE! (They will not be available for adoption until they are 10 weeks old. They are five weeks old, now.)
