About the Month of June

June, the sixth month of the year, is marked by the start of summer and holds the longest days of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. June recognizes Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States of America in 1865 - Juneteenth is a time for reflection, education, and celebration of African American culture and achievements.

Naming: June is named after Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage. 

Birthstone: The pearl is the birthstone for June, symbolizing purity, love, and beauty.

Birth flower: The rose and honeysuckle is the birth flower for June. 

Holidays: June includes Juneteenth, Father's Day, World Environment Day, & Go Skateboarding Day.

Zodiac Signs: June babies are born under the signs Gemini (May 21 - June 20) or Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

2025 Juneteenth Celebration

REACH and Play-Grow-Learn are proud to be hosting this year's Juneteenth event, celebrating Black and African culture, resilience, and joy. Every year, this creative, place-making initiative draws hundreds of participants for food, fun, and community.

Train to Volunteer at Disaster Resource Centers

During dangerous weather emergencies, including extreme heat, Multnomah County opens life-saving Disaster Resource Centers (DRCs) across our community that offer people shelter, safety, resources and connection. Community volunteers can fill critical roles in these emergencies!


Visit the Emergency Management Volunteer Site for details about upcoming virtual Disaster Resource Center info sessions and General Staff trainings where you can learn how to be prepared.

Summer Block Party

Mural Celebration, Music, Food, Art & More! 

Join Portland Music Company, Midway Business Association, and Office of Small Business for the 2025 Summer Block Party! Come celebrate the completion of our new mural with LIVE music, food, crafts, deals, AND MORE!


The mural, located at the Portland Music Company, was designed by Forest Wolf Kell to reflect the diverse community of East Portland and to celebrate Portland Music Company as the oldest music store in Portland (since 1927).

Howdy Argay! Upcoming Party on June 22nd

Argay Terrace's annual party in Argay Park is scheduled for Sunday, June 22nd from noon to 3:00 PM. Expect food, music, and activities for the whole family.


This event sponsored by the Bureau of Environmental Services and a grant from City of Portland’s Community and Civic Life. 

Neighborhood Happenings


Luuwit View Park: Those 18 years or younger can enjoy play time and a free lunch in the park. Starting Monday June 23rd to August 22nd. 10am -2pm - meal served at 12:15pm - 1pm.


Keeping Seniors Cool: If you’re over 60, have a medical condition that increases heat-related illness and are living alone, you may be eligible to receive a free portable air conditioner from the city. Details here


Bike Camp: Cycle Oregon is hosting a kids Bike Camp for ages 8-12. Learn bike skills that last a lifetime. June 16-20th and August dates. Scholarships available. 

AdoptOneBlock Appreciation Picnic

The AdoptOneBlock Appreciation Picnic is back this summer. We can’t wait to celebrate you.


This event is one of the highlights of our year: a chance to connect face-to-face with fellow Block Ambassadors, swap stories, share some laughs, enjoy delicious food and drinks, and recognize the incredible work you do every day to keep our neighborhoods clean and cared for.
