Central Rappahannock Regional Library

November 15, 2024

Welcome to your library news update!

I've enjoyed talking with members of our community in Stafford, Spotsylvania, and Fredericksburg, hearing what they love about the library and what they would like to see in the future. The next stops are in Westmoreland County at Montross (12/2) and Cooper (12/5) branches. Come by to chat if you can, or share your story and hopes for the future at librarypoint.org/tell-us.

Let's get ready for Thanksgiving with New Cookbooks, terrific for debuting memorable recipes for the holidays. Young children are invited to "Happy Thanksgiving" Grow a Reader specials, held at many branches. Have a long weekend coming up? We have a list of award-winning nonfiction and biographical picture books that are sure to spark children's interest in the world around them.

In PAWS for Reading sessions, students in grades K-6 can sign up to practice reading aloud to therapy dogs trained to be avid listeners. The pups also visit the library for Time with a Therapy Dog sessions, for those with disabilities in grades 7-adult.

We support readers of all ages! Adults can sample a new tea while discussing Bram Stoker's Dracula at the Novel Tea Book Group meeting, held at Salem Church on 11/23. Those for whom "Quiet Reading Time" was a treasured part of the school day will be happy to know we've brought it back as a regularly scheduled event at Howell--the next meet-up is on Friday, 11/22.

Teens can stop by for monthly Game Nights at Howell, Porter, Fredericksburg, and Salem Church branches. Our featured eAudio and eBook list encourages teens to "Love the Body You Have." The LGBTQ+ Teen Book Group meets 11/19 at Fredericksburg and online. This month's theme is "Drama Galore."

The library has something for everyone, from learning kits for children to online Author Talks to training on high-tech equipment, including the Glowforge 3D laser printer.

Adults with early memory loss and their care partners are invited to Memory Café, a chance to relax and reminisce with others. Meetups will be held at Fredericksburg (11/22) and Salem Church (12/20) branches, in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association.

Books make terrific gifts. Don't miss the Friends of the Library's Friday Before Thanksgiving Sale on 11/22 to get a head start on your holiday shopping. Use the coupon at the end of this email to save on your purchases--with all proceeds supporting your library!
