Prelude Music Concert teachers greeting families and children as they walk up

Music Together ® Celebrates and Joins Communities in High-need Schools in Houston, Texas

This past April, more than 4,000 children, teachers, and families in Houston, Texas, got together to sing, dance, and jam along to their favorite Music Together® songs at the fourth annual My First Orchestral Concert, hosted by the Prelude Music Foundation (PMF), an organization that brings Music Together to preschoolers at dozens of high-need elementary schools in Houston.

At the interactive concert, Music Together teachers were joined by musicians from some of the premier arts institutions in Houston, the Apollo Chamber Players, Houston Symphony, and Mercury Chamber Orchestra. The teachers and musicians performed many of the songs the preschoolers sang in their classrooms all year. Thousands of voices, young and old, joined together to greet each instrument during the “Hello Song,” explore a range of emotions with “Mr. Rabbit,” and dance, dance, dance with “Don Alfredo baila.”

Musical Parenting Tip: How do I get my child to...?

Illustration of mom brushing teeth in front of mirror with child watching and holding their toothbrush

There are so many aspects of parenting that are fun: witnessing first milestones; seeing your child laugh as they begin to discover life; and of course, the snuggles during Music Together lullabies! But, we’ve all had those days: “Put on your socks,” “Get in the car,” “Eat your peas…” and it just doesn’t happen without a hassle. Sometimes we can feel stuck if our children don’t want to come along for the ride. Well, there is one way to ease this stress—and maybe encourage your children to switch gears and do what they need to do. Try singing!

Check out the most recent post on the Music Together blog for a few ideas on how singing might make it a little easier to get through your day.
