Dear Friends,

There will be much discussion shortly relative to Hurricane Francine and its aftermath. Amid those discussions, allow me to take an opportunity to thank our residents and public officials for the preparation and responses that have facilitated the transition to recovery mode. As news reports showed throughout Louisiana, hundreds of thousands of customers were without electrical power, and flooding was widespread. We have our challenges, but amid those challenges are triumphs, and we are appreciative of all who contributed.

There is still much to be done to fully recover from Hurricane Francine. Please also note that we are still in hurricane season. Remain vigilant and prepared, assuming that there will be another encounter with nature in the form of a storm. Thank you to the people and organizations that volunteered by cleaning catch basins, checking on elderly residents, and more. All these combined efforts were valuable and helped many people while strengthening our neighborhoods.

Organizations have stepped up to help.

All acts of violent crime are unacceptable. There is still much to be done. However, the work of the Cantrell Administration and of the New Orleans City Council to fund and support the City's law enforcement, and social services, communities is paying dividends in fewer victims of crime. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Special thanks to the people in the 9th Ward community who came out to assist Constituent Services Liaison Durrell Laurent and Administrative Assistant Pierce W. Huff in a sandbag distribution at the Florida/Desire Multi-purpose center.

Thank you, neighbor. There are 72,000 storm catch basins in the City of New Orleans. After storms, hundreds of thousands of leaves and twigs / branches sometimes block the entrances.

Thank you, neighbors. This sensitivity and adherence to guidelines facilitates the more rapid pickup of debris.

Thank you to the many, many volunteers who stopped by to assist our community in getting prepared for Hurricane Francine with the filling and distribution of many hundred of sand bags, in six hours of rain. Thank you to Rev. Stanley K. Ihuoma, SSJ, and Rev.. Kingsley Ogbuji, SSJ and the family of St. Leo the Great St. Raymond Catholic Church for the use of your church grounds with little advanced notice. Thank you to NOPD Third District Officer Carter and Officer Masters for facilitating traffic flow, in the rain.

Councilmember Green, Criminal Sheriff Susan Hutson, and members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) at the Greater New Orleans AFLCIO annual Labor Day picnic.
