April 2025

Message from Dean Egerstedt

To be an engineer is fundamentally to be an optimist. We work, not on what the world looks like today, but on what it might look like tomorrow. In other words, we imagine the world as we want it to be. And then try to make it so. Over the next couple of months, two celebrations exemplifying engineering optimism will take place at the UC Irvine Samueli School of Engineering. April 22 is UCI’s Giving Day, where we will reach out to over 23,000 Anteater engineering alum. It is in part, thanks to past generous support that we have been able to propel our research and education programs forward to where we are today. And on May 2, we will be holding the Samueli School of Engineering Alumni Hall of Fame celebration, where three of our outstanding alumni will be recognized for their remarkable contributions.

Best,

Magnus Egerstedt, Ph.D.
