A new harmonized tri-agency scholarships and fellowships program is coming this summer

A new suite of training awards will consolidate the various scholarship and fellowships programs offered by Canada’s three federal research funding agencies into one harmonized program. Awards will continue to be offered at the master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral levels, and processes will be similar to previous competition cycles, helping ensure a smooth transition for applicants, administrators and reviewers. Registration opens soon for information webinars coming this spring.

2026 Canada Excellence Research Chairs competition now open!

The 2026 Canada Excellence Research Chairs Program competition is now posted. Eligible institutions will be invited to attend an online information session in the coming weeks. The registration deadline for institutions to nominate Canadian or international researchers for these highly prestigious, eight-year research chair positions at eligible Canadian degree-granting institutions is January 2026.

Ted Hewitt’s latest op-eds argue for the importance of academic freedom and science diplomacy

In the context of polarization from the right and the left, President Ted Hewitt wrote in the National Post about the need for government funding to support research that represents all Canadians. Ted also wrote in Research Money, urging more use of science diplomacy to counterbalance current pain points in Canada-United States trade relations.

Call for Indigenous Leadership Circle in Research members (francophone and Atlantic region)

The Indigenous Leadership Circle in Research is seeking new members with a deep understanding of Indigenous research. Applicants must be interested in contributing to improving the research landscape for Indigenous researchers and students in Canada. While all expressions of interest are welcome, this particular call is intended to recruit francophone and Atlantic nations (including urban, rural, northern and on-/off-reserve Indigenous Peoples) candidates.

Funding tip of the month: Multifactor authentication is coming to CCV


To improve security and protect the privacy of users, the three federal research funding agencies will be implementing multifactor authentication in the Canadian Common CV (CCV) in March 2025. While the agencies have announced a gradual transition to a new, narrative-style CV, some funding opportunities will continue to use the CCV beyond March. Multifactor authentication uses two methods to verify the identity of a user before giving them access to the CCV.
