January 2024

November 2023 Status:

In November, we sterilized 1,753 cats and placed 148 cats into loving forever homes.

December 2023 Status:

In December, we sterilized 1,806 cats and placed 261 cats into loving forever homes.

Wow, what a way to end the year! Can you believe that Forgotten Cats sterilized over 20,000 cats last year? That's over 20,000 cats that are no longer reproducing, preventing the birth of countless kittens that would have been born to a short and miserable life on the streets or end up being euthanized in a high kill shelter.

It's because of you, our dedicated volunteers & rescue partners that our mission continues - we can't wait to see what we can achieve together in 2024!

Allow us to introduce special needs kitty, Bailey!

Lap Cat Alert!

This sweetie is Bailey. Bailey is the absolute sweetest cat at our shelter currently. There’s no doubt about that. He’s a total lap cat. Bailey is incredibly gentle, loving and friendly. He’s great with other cats and super easy going.

Bailey is around 1.5-2 years old. He has a very mild heart condition for which he needs a daily Lasix pill. Bailey is a champ at taking his medication.

Bailey is hoping and praying for a home of his own. He REALLY doesn’t want to be stuck in a cage simply because he needs a little pill.

Bailey is fun-loving, playful and just has the most amazing energy. Bailey is just as deserving as any of our other cats, but he’s going to wait in a cage far longer because of his heart meds.

Can anyone out there be a hero for our buddy, Bailey? He’ll be waiting to hear from you.

Bailey would love to be in a home environment.  Please submit our no-obligation Adoption Application at:  https://forgottencats.org/adoption-application/. Not ready to adopt? Please consider fostering:  https://forgottencats.org/foster-a-cat/. FCID# 11/27/23-9 Trainer

Great news! We're opening a full-time adoption center in the Willow Grove PetSmart!!!!!

EXCITING Update!

We are hoping for a grand opening at our NEW Willow Grove PetSmart Adoption Center THIS COMING WEEKEND, February 3-4, 2024. BUT we still need shift volunteers to care for our kitties! Shifts are only 2 hours!

If you can help, please contact us at info@forgottencats.org. Willow Grove PetSmart is located at 3995 Welsh Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090.

Opening and closing shifts are the most important because they include feeding, cleaning, and wellness checks. Other duties include monitoring the health of the cats, talking with prospective adopters, socializing, playing, and exercising the cats, communicating with staff as needed, and general maintenance of the center.

These are the volunteer shifts that need coverage:

Fridays: Opening (9-11 am)

Sundays: All day (9-11; 11-1; 1-3; 3-5; 7-9)

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays: 1-3, and 3-5

Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays, Sundays: Closing (7-9 pm)

2023 End of the Year Appeal - Thank You!

Dear FC supporters,

We’d like to extend a sincere Thank You to all our supporters that donated to the 2023 End of Year Appeal Campaign. Because of you, homeless cats, like Faith, Hairy & Wilbur, will receive the medical care they so deserve. Our cat-loving community's generosity never ceases to amaze me.

Thank you for caring about homeless cats today and every day.

Warm Regards,

Felicia Cross

Johanna & George's Happy Ending

This beautiful letter speaks for itself . . .

Hi Linda,
I just wanted to give you an update on my dear Prince. I renamed him George because my late husband loved George Harrison. I like to say that he’s the cat formerly known as Prince.
This wonderful cat brought me back to life.
In February 2023 my husband died ... I remember saying to my son that I would never know joy again.
For nine months that was true, and then I met George.
I had all this love inside me and nowhere for it to go after I lost Paul…and then George came into my life.
He is my absolute joy, and he is so, so loved.
He’s playful and loving and he’s my little partner in everything I do!
He pulled me out of my sadness, he helped bring me mentally back to that place where Paul and I were when I lost him…we were looking to move out of our townhouse and into a house with a garden.
A few weeks ago, I found my dream house, the house my husband and I were looking for. It’s an old farmhouse in Oley, PA, near my son and daughter-in-law (who both adore George) who live in Reading, PA ...
My town house only has windows on the east and west side, and I don’t have any windowsills. The new house has lots of big windows with light from all directions and plenty of deep windowsills for George to enjoy.
I was standing still before George came into my life…and now I’m moving forward again.
This is what pets can do.
I’m attaching a pic of George at the bathroom window; he’s always there looking out while I get dressed in the morning. I can’t wait to have windowsills, so he doesn’t have to stand on his tiptoes.
Thank you for all you do and for helping to bring George into my life.
Fondly,
Johanna

DO MORE 24 DELAWARE

Do More 24 Delaware is a 24-hour day of giving designed to help nonprofits raise more money and engage new donors.

Last year during Do More 24, Forgotten Cats was grateful to raise over $30,000, surpassing our goal of $15,000 with the help of our generous donors!

For this year's Do More 24, we are hoping to obtain the support of matching donor(s) to help us reach our new goal of $20,000 (or more!).

If you would be interested in being a matching donor – and immediately doubling the size of your donation to one of your favorite nonprofits – please contact Olivia Westley at info@forgottencats.org.

Volunteer Opportunities

ADOPTION PROCESSORS NEEDED

This volunteer position can be done from any location! By adding more adoption processors, we will be able to speed up the adoption process which will enable us to find homes for more cats who otherwise may never get a chance to get off the streets and into a home. This volunteer position REQUIRES a time commitment of 10 HOURS PER WEEK.

Once an application is completed for a cat, the application then goes to an adoption processor, who then does certain checks (Landlord check, talk to applicant's veterinarian to verify that applicant takes care of his/her pets, etc).

No experience is required - we will train you!

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, that in order to do this position you need to be somewhat of a detective. Unfortunately, applicants for cats have been known to “stretch the truth” in order to get approved for a cat. For example, an applicant may claim to own their own home when, in fact, they rent from a Landlord who has a NO Pet policy. We need to be able to find this out. Because we have fairly strict requirements (to protect our cats) for approval of an application, there are applicants whose applications we need to reject. If you are uncomfortable rejecting an application this is probably not the volunteer position for you.

Just a reminder, this volunteer position requires a time commitment of 10 hours per week.

If you are interested in becoming an adoption processor, please contact John Fedele at info@forgottencats.org and PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER.

TRAINER CLINIC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We are in URGENT need of CLINIC Volunteers in our Trainer Clinic (Delaware County, PA - near Claymont, DE).

We are looking for help on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - full or half day.

This is an opportunity to help cats whose only medical treatment during their lifetime may be when they go to our clinic. Volunteering at the clinics is an important and serious undertaking and we are looking for the few ready to make the commitment. CLINIC volunteers need to commit to one specific day a week at the clinic. The reason for this is that we are dealing with the lives of the cats, and we need to make sure that our volunteers know the clinic procedures, and this can only be done by volunteering on at least a one day per week basis. We will train - no medical background required.

Volunteers must commit to either One Full Day a week or Half a day.

Clinic Position Descriptions

Serious Inquiries only please!

If you are interested in volunteering at the clinic, please contact John Fedele at info@forgottencats.org and PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER.

TRAINER FEED & CLEAN and CAGE CLEANERS NEEDED

CAGE CLEANERS

Looking for a non-traditional workout?  We’re looking for a few strong individuals to help us clean our cat’s cages.

We swear it’s rewarding, and you’ll be making a HUGE contribution to our shelter.

Time commitment is a minimum of once weekly for 2 hours (day/time flexible). We need multiple people for this role as the dirty cages pile up fast.

Email info@forgottencats.org to set up a brief training session. *Heavy lifting required*

We are in need of Feed and Clean volunteers for our Trainer, Pennsylvania clinic. Volunteers need to commit to at least one shift (9:00 am - noon) per week. This is an opportunity to help cats whose ONLY medical treatment during their lifetime may be when they go to our clinic.

If you are interested, please contact me ASAP and I will be glad to answer your questions and you can decide if this is something you want to do.

In your reply, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER

Interested in learning more about our barn cat program? Please email info@forgottencats.org for more details (make sure to include your name and phone number!).
