A Letter from Leadership

We are filled with gratitude to all who participated in the beautiful Institute Prayer Service with personal blessings for each one of us. We are deeply touched by the thought, work and care that went into producing the beautiful book of letters to us. Your cards and personal greetings have been so appreciated.

And we are grateful to the larger Mercy Community for the gifts you bring to the whole and for your commitment and support.

Please know that we feel graced and privileged to be in relationship with all of you. As we continue to share our Mercy journey, we cannot help but quote from Mr. Rogers about something important to remember.

“Often when you think you are at the end of something,

you’re at the beginning of something else.

Our hope for all of us is that in all the endings of our lives,

we will be able to see the new beginnings.”

Wishing you blessings in all the days to come.

With great affection,

"It has been a gift and privilege to serve in leadership for the Mid-Atlantic since its beginning in 2007.

My life has truly been changed and enriched by this experience. Knowing you as a community and so

many of you individually, has been one of the

greatest blessings of my life."

Sister Pat Vetrano, RSM

“I am filled with gratitude for the love and support shown me in the past weeks, especially in letters, cards, and personal greetings. During these ten years, the deep commitment by all to the mission of Mercy and to our Mercy Community has been so evident to me through the ministry of leadership. Thank you to each for your loving kindness. As we proclaim so often, it is a wonderful thing to be a Sister of Mercy!”

I am grateful for the gift each of you are and

the support you have shown throughout these years.

It has been a privilege to serve you in the role of Leadership. Blessings as you journey to Oneness.”

Sister Pat Smith, RSM

“We have come to another time of completion and new beginnings. We have walked this time of seeking the next best answer together, sharing our insights and trusting that the God who has called us to faithfulness is always faithful to us. Together we have been faithful servants and I am privileged to be on this journey with you.”

may we continue to pray for each other.”

Relive the Highlights!

Mid-Atlantic Messages, the weekly online newsletter of the Mid-Atlantic Community, was first published on January 2006, the first week of the existence of the Mid-Atlantic Community. As of that time, we have published over 700 issues. This electronic newsletter has been the primary internal communications vehicle for sisters, associates, companions and staff for the past 15 years. It has informed these internal audiences of spiritual reflections, consultative gatherings, assemblies, anniversaries, convocations, a community mantra, an Apostolic visitation, professions, jubilees, Throwback Thursdays, transitions, advocacy for justice, and even a pandemic.

Now, your constant companion is evolving into a weekly version of Mercy Now arriving in your email box every Thursday. See below for more details. In the words of Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” We are smiling because it has been our pleasure producing it for you each week, a great way to spend Thursday afternoons (and sometimes Thursday nights!)

A Helpful Tool in a Time of Transition

If you don't have a hard copy handy, be sure to download a copy of the Life Transitions and Health and Wellness Resource Guide. Created by Mid-Atlantic sisters, it was distributed to the community in 2015. You may find it helpful in this time of transition. It has also been widely used by sisters in other former communities.
