Friends and Supporters,
The City of Richmond is currently working on the Jackson Ward Community Plan, a small neighborhood plan with a focus on people, housing, and community. The Jackson Ward Community Plan focuses on creating a vision for both Jackson Ward and Gilpin Court and aims to include residents, planning experts, elected officials, and other community members in the planning process.
Jackson Ward is a historically and culturally important part of the City and has been subject to inequitable planning practices in the past including the construction of I-95/I-64 and urban renewal. We appreciate the city’s attention to investment and revitalization, but they must ensure current residents and community members are benefiting from this plan and that displacement of current residents will be prevented.
There are two upcoming events for community members to learn more about the draft plan and offer their input. There are two sessions you can attend:
In-Person: Tuesday, April 18 at 6 pm at the Calhoun Community Center (436 Calhoun Street, Richmond, VA 23231).
Virtual: Wednesday, April 19 at 12 pm. You can register for the meeting here.
We encourage residents and community members to attend these sessions to learn more about the draft plan and add your input! You can find out more about the community plan here and can email JacksonWard@RRHA.com for questions or comments.
