Cayuga Playground—keeping the art alive! The playground is filled with magical carvings made from fallen trees by Demi Braceros. Changes in temperature, precipitation, and increased wind threaten the art. Let's paint the figures together so future generations can experience his work. Bring your old paint, and let's restore, reuse, and recycle together.
Come and paint with us! Wear your painting clothes, bring a snack, a water bottle, and a sun hat. Supplies provided. We will be in the Cayuga Playground (10 am). Parking: We recommend you park on Alemany and walk down Naglee Street stairs, directly in front of the park.

At first, Danny and Elliot dismiss Malcolm and Craig as “two fruits” and try to play along to keep up their ruse. But they begin to see Malcolm and Craig as good people and begin to question what they were taught about homosexuals.

Join the SF Sidewalk Search Party’s regular meeting to learn how to work together to make our sidewalks safer and more accessible. Then, join our Fourth Tuesday Field Trips! Each month, we’ll head to a new neighborhood, searching for sidewalk damage caused by street trees. When we find them, we’ll hang ducks on trees to let people know that the City is responsible for fixing these sidewalks!

CATHOLIC CHARITIES - HISTORY OF YANGA

On June 17, Catholic Charities will host a special presentation highlighting the story of Gaspar Yanga, one of the earliest known freedom fighters of the Americas. Born in Africa and brought to New Spain (now Mexico) as an enslaved man, Yanga led a successful rebellion in the 1570s and founded a free settlement that Spanish authorities would officially recognize. This event offers a significant opportunity to learn about a powerful and often overlooked history chapter. SMALL BUSINESS & NONPROFIT WORKFORCE TRENDS - MAY 2025 EDITION
Small businesses and nonprofits are navigating significant economic uncertainty in 2025, influenced by factors such as inflation, fluctuating consumer demand, and policy shifts. To adapt, many are modifying their hiring practices, increasingly turning to part-time, temporary, and contract workers to maintain flexibility and manage costs.
💼 Small Businesses: Balancing Optimism with Flexibility
Despite economic headwinds, small businesses remain cautiously optimistic:
- 67% report good overall health
- 72% are comfortable with cash flow
- 41% plan to hire in the coming year

SAN FRANCISCO PRIDE June 29 - 30
San Francisco PRIDE is one of the most iconic and historic LGBTQ+ celebrations in the world. What began as a grassroots march in 1970 has grown into a massive citywide event that draws hundreds of thousands of people each year. The 2025 theme is Queer Joy is Resistance. The celebration includes a two-day festival in Civic Center Plaza and a colorful, high-energy parade down Market Street on Sunday, June 30. ALZHEIMERS AND BRAIN AWARENESS MONTH
June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month—a time to elevate understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and to support the millions of individuals and families affected. In San Francisco, residents can access valuable support, services, and education through the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern California and the San Francisco Human Services Agency’s Alzheimer’s Day Care Resource Centers.

JUNETEENTH
Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. This pivotal moment in American history is commemorated nationwide as a symbol of Black liberation, resilience, and cultural heritage. In San Francisco, the Juneteenth Freedom Celebration will occur on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in the historic Fillmore District. Spanning eight city blocks, this free, family-friendly festival will feature live music, a classic car show, a hair and fashion showcase, over 80 food and retail vendors, and a vibrant Kids Zone with games and inflatables. Organized by the nonprofit Juneteenth SF Freedom Organization, the event continues a 76-year tradition of honoring Black freedom and community in San Francisco. EID AL-ADHA
Eid al-Adha, one of Islam’s most sacred holidays, will be observed this year from the evening of Friday, June 6, to Saturday, June 7, 2025. In honor of this celebration, San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood will host its first Eid Night Market Street Fair, spotlighting the area’s vibrant Muslim community through food, music, kids’ activities, and cultural pride. IMPORTANT MUNI SERVICE CHANGES Starting June 21
Muni service changes will take effect on Saturday, June 21, as part of SFMTA’s efforts to close a $50 million budget shortfall and preserve service where it’s needed most.
Key updates include:
- 5 Fulton, 9 San Bruno, and 31 Balboa will turn around at Market Street on weekdays, with transfers available to other Market Street lines.
- 6 Haight-Parnassus and 21 Hayes will be combined into a new 6 Hayes-Parnassus route serving parts of each line.
- Service frequency on Market Street will remain high, with vehicles running every 2–4 minutes on weekdays.
These adjustments aim to maintain system reliability despite funding challenges.

SAVE THE DATE: MTC IS HOSTING A DISABILITY SUMMIT

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (the regional planning agency for the 9 County Bay Area) is hosting a 2-day disability summit, Accessible Futures, on June 16 and 17 that is free, hybrid (zoom & our office in San Francisco) and geared to hearing the needs, gaps and challenges for people with disabilities, within four facilitated sessions on transportation, housing, the environment/climate change, (our agency's areas of focus) and employment/economic security. This event is primarily intended for people with disabilities of all ages. While Zoom has unlimited capacity, our in-person registration is limited to 150 people and should open any day (our website also has an email info sign-up). For folks who want to participate as practitioners, advocates, and allies (and do not have a disability), we've been recommending either signing up for the Zoom option or waiting until closer to the event, to allow others to sign up first.
