The Federal Trade Commission today took action against Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service provider VoIP Terminator, Inc., a related company, and the firms’ owner for assisting and facilitating the transmission of millions of illegal prerecorded telemarketing robocalls, including those they knew or should have known were scams, to consumers nationwide. FDA proposes ban on menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars
"Through careful consideration of the scientific evidence and our authorities under the Tobacco Control Act, we've determined that these actions are appropriate for protection of the public health," FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf told a Senate subcommittee. "The proposed product standards would, among other things, improve the health and reduce the mortality risk of current smokers of menthol cigarettes or flavored cigars by substantially decreasing their consumption and increasing the likelihood of cessation. This is another important move forward in the agency's efforts to combat youth tobacco use and promote health equity."

The U.S. Supreme Court delivered its 8-to-1 ruling that it is not unconstitutional to exclude Puerto Rico residents from its Supplemental Security In- come, or SSI, program, thus allowing the systemwide discrimination of all U.S. territories.
| | Menthol Ban Would Boost Smuggling, Reduce Revenues, with Few Health Benefits | | Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unveiled long-anticipated proposed regulations banning the sale of menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars, part of ongoing efforts to support smoking cessation.
