What’s the difference between FDA-approved and pharmacy-compounded animal drugs?
The FDA is charged with evaluating animal drugs to make sure they are safe and do what they claim to do, whether that’s treating a particular type of infection, relieving pain, or treating some other problem.
When evaluating an animal drug for FDA-approval, scientists (including veterinarians) examine the dose, what species or type of animal it’s meant for, and how that animal processes the medicine in the body. If the medicine is used in animals that produce food, like meat, milk or eggs, the FDA also checks whether it’s safe for people to eat food from an animal treated with the medicine. Compounded animal drugs, on the other hand, are not FDA-approved.

SBA makes historic strides to address inequities, lower barriers, and other systemic challenges facing underserved small business communities
“The SBA’s Equity Action Plan reaffirms our agency-wide commitment to breaking down longstanding barriers to ensure underserved entrepreneurs can access the capital, networks, resources, and opportunity they need to realize their American dream of business ownership,” said Administrator Guzman. “Alongside plans from over 90 other federal agencies, the SBA’s Equity Action Plan aims to level the playing field for all small businesses and startups, a priority of the Biden-Harris Administration, and empower them to compete in an increasingly global economy and navigate new opportunities presented by transformational legislation, such as President Biden’s Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act (Bipartisan Infrastructure Law).”

BBB Scam Alert: “Free gift for you” text message? It’s a scam!
You receive a text message that says something like this: “Your bill is paid for March. Thanks, here’s a little gift for you.” This message followed by a link to an unfamiliar website. The text doesn’t specify what bill you paid, what company the message is coming from, or what the total amount was. Even more disturbing, the message may be a group text sent to a dozen or more other people, none of whom are in your contacts list.
The text isn’t from a real company. The goal is to get your personal information, which puts you at risk for identity theft. In some versions of the scam, you may be directed to a website asking you to “confirm your identity,” so you can receive the gift. Scammers may also ask for your credit card information, claiming you need to pay a few dollars to ship the “free” gift.

The Index of Consumer Sentiment rose 10.61%; meanwhile, Claims for Unemployment rose
10.78%, and the Retail sales reports fell short, rising only 0.50%, and Wall Street closed lower.
| |
The U.S. & European stock markets closed the session with asymmetrical results. The Eurozone closed higher, and Wall Street closed the week with sharp losses as investors absorbed the four money center bank Q122 earnings results highlighted below, which were lower when compared to the same quarter last year. Added into the mix was the rise of unemployment claims, which came at 185,000, increasing 10.87%. The dismal U.S. Retail sales report only grew 0.50%; these indicators provide a cloudy economic environment.

Chaotic IRS Filing Season Shows the Perils of Running Social Policy
Through the Tax Code
| |
As the deadline for the 2022 tax filing season nears, the IRS faces scrutiny for its backlog of returns, inaccessible taxpayer service, and delays in issuing certain refunds. As of January 28th, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) had 23.7 million returns awaiting action, compared to a typical backlog at that point of roughly 1 million returns. IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig recently testified the IRS will catch up on the return backlog by the end of the year by creating surge teams and planning to hire an additional 10,000 workers, but that will do little to alleviate the pain of this year’s filing season ending in less than a month.
