Thank You for all the fun, laughter,
and friendships we’ve shared
at Vacation Bible School this year.
Thank You for all the volunteers
who gave their time and talents
to help us learn about Your love.
As we leave these doors,
please go with us.
Help us to be kind to our families,
helpful to our neighbors,
and to let Your light shine in everything we do.
Keep us safe until we gather again.
In Jesus' Holy Name, we pray. Amen.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS) ADVENTURE began this past MONDAY, JULY 13 and continues through tomorrow, FRIDAY, JULY 17, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM!
A full team of volunteers are leading the children through Rainforest Falls, where they are learning about the nature of God through the wonders of nature.
As you know, no child is turned away from this ministry due to lack of funds. So we continue to seek donations to sponsor a child ($35), as well as help to defray the cost of snacks and lunch ($300). Any amount will help!

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Prayer shawls are made, blessed, and given to those who need comfort or healing, as well as those who are celebrating milestones. Workshops are held on the last Saturday of the month in the Guild Room, and the normal meeting time is 10:00 AM. However, please note that our next meeting, Saturday, July 25, will run from 9:45 to 10:45 AM to accommodate anyone who wishes to attended the Garners' funeral at 11:00. ALTAR FRONTAL
As you may have noticed, we have removed the white altar covering (called a “frontal”) that was in place during the Easter season. We also use it for Christmas and for weddings and funerals. Now the Altar Guild is preparing to introduce a new green frontal to our worship service, for use during other seasons of the year.
The Altar Guild invites the congregation to participate in the creation of the new altar frontal for our church. Those wishing to contribute may make a minimum donation of $250 in memory or honor of a loved one. Names will be stitched onto a dedication panel accompanying the frontal.
Please contact the Church Office for additional information or to participate in this meaningful project.
A bit of a background on the use of altar frontals: In the Episcopal tradition, the frontal is a decorative and often richly embroidered cloth that adorns the front of the altar. More than decoration, it serves as “visual theology,” reflecting the seasons and feasts of the Church year while beautifying the Lord’s Table. Historically, fine textiles were used to “vest” the altar as a royal throne, symbolizing Christ’s majesty and the faithful gathered around Him.
Throughout church history, altar frontals have carried deep spiritual significance. Their changing colors mark the liturgical seasons: purple for preparation and penitence, white and gold for celebration and resurrection, red for the Holy Spirit and martyrs, and green for growth in ordinary time.
In many Episcopal parishes, altar frontals are also given as memorial gifts, honoring loved ones and serving as a lasting reminder of the communion of saints each time the altar is prepared for worship.
Why green?
Liturgical green in the Episcopal Church symbolizes spiritual growth, hope, and new life. It is worn during the seasons of Epiphany and the Season after Pentecost, which together comprise "Ordinary Time" – the longest stretches of the church year focused on the ongoing journey of faith and discipleship.
The specific significance of the color green in Episcopal worship centers around several key themes:

Spiritual Development: Just as green plants and trees flourish during the spring and summer, the color represents the daily, often quiet work of deepening our roots, leafing out, and maturing as disciples of Christ.

Hope and Anticipation: Green points to the promise of new life and the ongoing mission of the Church in the world.

The Revelatory Seasons: Green is often used during Epiphany, a season celebrating the revelation of Christ to the world, and during the long Sundays after Pentecost, which celebrate the revelation of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

URGENT: BACK-TO-SCHOOL BACKPACK GIVEAWAY!
On Saturday, July 25, the Food Pantry and the National Charity League will be distributing free backpacks filled with school supplies to families in need. Donations of school supplies are needed now! SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON
Based on the Gospel reading for this week in the Lectionary, we are delving into Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23. In this season after Pentecost, we hear stories of Jesus’ ministry in the world and our call to engage in that mission. In today’s lesson we are jumping into a section where Jesus is being challenged over and over by various groups of people. What we are reading today is some of the response to those ongoing challenges. Jesus uses parables to teach as well as deal with conflict that is around him.
Through the Parable of the Sower, we will be exploring what Jesus was talking about when it comes to listening to and speaking God’s word. What do we have to do to take care of seeds after they are planted? If the seeds are God’s word, I wonder what we can do to take care of them? These are the questions that we will examine through Jesus’ story.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2026 KATHIE CLARK SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS!
We are proud to announce that Hannah Muniz and Racheal Musiimenta are the recipients of the Episcopal Church Women’s 2026 Kathie Clark Scholarship.
Prince of Peace is richly blessed to have these young graduates and their families as part of our church community. Hannah and Racheal have been very actively involved in many areas of church life, including the youth group, live streaming, Vacation Bible School, and serving as acolytes.
Please join us on Sunday, July 19, at 9:00 AM as we honor and celebrate Hannah and Racheal and present each of them with their $1,500 scholarship.
Both recipients will attend Pierce College as they pursue careers in nursing. We wish Hannah and Racheal the very best as they continue their education and prepare for their future careers.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2026 YOUNG MEN’S SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT!
We are proud to announce that Daniel Wirkkala is the recipient of the Joe Gallagher Young Men’s Scholarship Award. The award of $1,500.00 will help Daniel to pursue his studies at Pierce College in the field of biology with a career in the healthcare industry.
Daniel and his family have been very active in the life of the church, with Daniel and his father as part of the team that live-streams our 10:00 AM service every Sunday. Both Daniel and his brother are members of the Bell Choir and leaders at Vacation Bible School.

SHARING SOLES DRIVE: CARING FEET, SHARING CHRIST'S LOVE
The Daughters of the King invite you to participate in our Sharing Soles Drive this July and August. We are collecting new socks of any size and any color to share with those in need, beginning with guests who attend our Community Dinners.
Donations may be placed in the green collection box in the church entryway (Narthex) any time during July and August.
As you donate, we also invite you to pray for those who will receive these socks. If you would like, include a short note of encouragement or a prayer with your donation as a reminder that they are loved and remembered.

EPISCOPAL-LUTHERAN DODGER NIGHT SEPTEMBER 3
It's time once again to gather at Dodger Stadium for Episcopal Night to watch the Dodgers play the St. Louis Cardinals! This year's game will be on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $48 per person. All fans must have the MLB Ballpark App on their mobile devices to gain entrance – no paper tickets! Deadline to order is THIS SUNDAY, July 19. This is an evening for Episcopalians and friends to gather together and have a good time as the Diocese of Los Angeles. The Diocese will be joined again by the Lutherans of the Southwest California Synod in the true spirit of baseball and ecumenism, so invite your Lutheran friends to come out and join!
