SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON

The Season after Pentecost is the period between the Day of Pentecost and the First Sunday of Advent. This season makes up half of the calendar year, and it is a time to focus on the life and growth of the Church in the world, empowered by the gift of the presence of the Holy Spirit.

This week, we are delving into the Gospel passage, Matthew 21:23-32. We will be discussing the Parable of the Two Sons and asking ourselves whether actions speak louder than words.

WEDNESDAY PRAYER CIRCLE IS BACK!

After our Summer hiatus, the Wednesday Evening Prayer Circle has reconvened. Please join us each Wednesday at 5:00 PM in the Chapel for contemplative prayer punctuated with sacred music and silence, ending with a candlelight service of Compline (which is in the Prayer Book, page 127). It is a peaceful time of refreshment and connection. All are welcome!

CANSTRUCTION FOOD-RAISING

Our Food Pantry is doing a food drive in a fun and creative way! Community groups will be building various canned goods structures for friendly competition, including our Children and Youth Ministries who will construct a Cross. All cans will then be donated to the Food Pantry for distribution.

All donations should be received in the Church Office TODAY, Thursday, September 24, so that we can construct that Sunday during Sunday School. We are in need of cans of soup or vegetables with YELLOW, BLUE, GREEN, or RED labels – the more color the better! Your generous support is appreciated!

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY - MEETING CHANGE

The September meeting of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is being moved to Saturday, October 3 in the Guild Room at 10:00 AM. (We will also be meeting on October 31 as regularly scheduled.) Please contact Margie Pavlowsky if you have any questions.

THE COMMUNITY DINNER NEEDS YOUR HELP!

The Community Dinner is asking for help in the "front of the house." Specifically, we need people to serve food in our buffet line.

Arrival time: 4:45 PM

Departure: Usually no later than 6:00 PM

TRUNK OR TREAT!

Join Prince of Peace October 24 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM for our annual Trunk or Treat in the Food Pantry parking lot. There will be candy and costumes, music and munchies, not many frights but many delights! Invite your family and friends for games, a tour of the church, and more. We will be grateful for any donations of candy and treats! Email Tara Brooks at tara@popwh.org if you are interested in signing up to assist at the event or are interested in offering your trunk. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the greater Woodland Hills community, and we would love to see as much of the congregation as possible participate.

FLU AND COVID

It’s time to update your Flu and Covid vaccines. New vaccine formulas based on the currently circulating strains of these viruses are available. There is a senior version of the Flu vaccine for those 65 or older. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months or older get each of these vaccines annually.

COMMUNITY THRIFT RUMMAGE SALE: Not long to go before our big event! 

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11: You can drop off your Rummage after each service. We still need volunteer help to unload people's vehicles and take their donations to the RFC, between 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 12 – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16: Volunteers are still needed to sort and price items, between 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Time and dates are flexible during this week.

SALE DAYS:

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

and

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18: 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon.
