SONOS Chamber Orchestra is back!

Our latest news is that we just completed a 5-day development workshop in New York City of "Grandfather Camp," a SONOS Chamber Orchestra commissioned work for 3 actors and orchestra!

"Grandfather Camp: An Orchestral Fantasy" (based on the writings of Dr. Ruth Westheimer) is a new 50-minute hybrid theatrical/orchestral piece which treats the grandparent/grandchild relationship and uses both original songs and lots of excerpts of orchestral repertoire that we've fiendishly deconstructed. It's aimed at family concert audiences. It was commissioned by SONOS Chamber Orchestra, and the composer/lyricist team is made up of Tom Chapin and John Forster.

This concert program harnesses the almost limitless emotional power of a full orchestra to dramatize the grandparent-grandchild relationship, in all its complicated glory. The cast includes a grandchild actor, a grandfather actor, a magical "Grandmother to the World" actor and the SONOS Chamber Orchestra.

THE NEXT STEP

Our next step is to raise enough money that we can produce a concert in New York City, followed by a recording, as well as an illustrated book.

In 2017, SONOS Music Director Erik Ochsner was appointed Principal Touring Conductor of La La Land: Live in Concert. In this format, the complete fim is shown above the symphony orchestra on a large screen; the original dialogue and sound effects are heard from the recording; and the symphony orchestra performs the complete, original soundtrack live, synchronized to the film. Erik Ochsner is recognized as one of the leading conductors of this format worldwide!

To date he has conducted 50 perfomances of La La Land and 21 other films, including four Star Wars films, and the world premiere of Mary Poppins Live in Concert in the Sydney Opera House!

He has also recently been a guest conductor with the Beethoven Academy Orchestra (Krakow, Poland), the Filmharmonique (Montreal), the Louisville Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony, and the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra.
