According to the Wikipedia listing “AFTERSUN is a 2022 semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Charlotte Wells in her feature directorial debut. Starring Paul Mescal, Frankie Corio, and Celia Rowlson-Hall, the film is loosely based on Wells’ childhood and follows an 11-year-old Scottish girl on holiday with her father at a Turkish resort on the eve of his 31st birthday.”

Brain Spa

Exercise at Home with Jill Stein

Come move your body and have fun! Work on functional/full body strength, joint mobility, posture, balance, pairing movement with breath, and core strength. Class is done standing, using a wall, and seated. Our instructor, Jill Stein (pictured), is a group exercise instructor and certified personal trainer with a special interest in working with older adults. She ran the Fitness and Wellness Class Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for 15 years. Jill provides individualized support and attention in her classes.

Great Books, Great Conversations

Health Hub: The Neurochemistry of Emotions

How are emotions and the brain related? This presentation will delve into the science of emotions in the brain, what external or internal elements may impact certain emotional responses, and review ways we might consciously interrupt the cycle to have more impact on our emotions, our brains and our overall wellbeing.
Health Hub meets monthly to discuss pertinent lifestyle topics, and the science behind each. It also blends information and discussion, to allow those attending to chat about ways of positively impacting their daily routines to maintain or improve body and brain health. Have you found some articles related to this topic? Bring them along, we can work as a group to chat about them, or if needed, to debunk ”fake news” or claims not focused on research.

Outing to the Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette, presented by the Men's Group and the Life 3.0 Committee

Visit the jewel of the North Shore, the exquisite Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette, on Monday, October 14th. This is one of only eight Bahá’í temples in the world, and is officially designated one of the seven wonders of Illinois. The temple’s unique design features an intricate, lacy exterior surrounded by landscaped gardens and fountains. A docent will explain its history and how the complex reflects the Bahá’í faith’s teachings of harmony, equality, and peace.
The tour begins a 10 a.m. and will last about an hour and a half. We will gather at the Village Office to carpool at 9 a.m. Afterwards we will have a self-sponsored lunch at a nearby restaurant. When registering, please indicate whether you can give a ride or need a ride.
There is no charge for the tour. The complex is accessible, but there is about a five-minute walk on a paved surface between the two buildings. Address for the Bahá’i House of Worship is 100 Linden Avenue, Wilmette. The parking lot is in front of the building.

Fall Foliage Walk in Graceland Cemetery

Once again come enjoy the beautiful colors of fall on a stroll around Graceland Cemetery and Arboretum with member Laurie Desmond. Although this is not a tour, several prominent grave sites will be pointed out.
Comfortable shoes, dressing for the weather, and a water bottle are recommended. While the pace is leisurely and roads are paved, there aren’t many places to stop and rest.
We will meet on the patio at the main gate (4001 N Clark). Use caution when entering the grounds since the pavers are uneven. Limited parking is available. There is street parking and the Clark and Irving Park buses stop at the cemetery.
