*Doing together what we cannot do alone

Weekly Message

Dear Friend,

Perspective is an aspect of life that I have become more keenly aware of since starting at FID almost eight years ago. Everyday experiences, activities, and individual moments that I often took for granted have gained new meaning. One of those moments took place this week in The Women’s Room. An amazing volunteer group, The Sweet Teas, graced TWR with another beautiful summer tea party. These ladies bake fresh tea treats, bring china and tea, and throw the fanciest tea parties for TWR. Our guests thoroughly enjoy themselves! When folks ask how we affect the lives of women on a daily basis - in addition to the showers, laundry and food - experiences like these tea parties are a great example. Showering the ladies with dignity, respect and love by not just bringing some tea and cakes, but by putting them on good china and serving them in such a beautiful way, we provide the women a day to remember as special – and this is certainly something they won’t take for granted. In this case, perspective is everything.

And, to continue on the TWR theme, yesterday the staff threw a lovely baby shower for Director of TWR, Lindsey Reed, who is expecting her first child in two months. It was a fun and festive late-afternoon gathering at one of our favorite spots, Callisto Tea House - with games, gifts, gratitude, and camaraderie. We are super excited for Lindsey!

Tomorrow and next weekend, the Food Pantry will be distributing hundreds of backpacks and school supplies to the families in our pantry community. Huge thanks to Tim and his team, and all the volunteers who donated, helped assemble, and will give out the backpacks!

Finally, we are just three weeks away from our 130th birthday party – it is going to be amazing! We are very excited to show everyone the archives we have from past century of service to our community: we have board minutes from the 1930s and 1940s, pictures and slides from the whole of the 20th century, and lots of other memorabilia that will be turned into a timeline for everyone to enjoy. If you haven’t already, please RSVP and, if you are able, consider contributing $130 in honor of the occasion. This is going to be an event that will truly have our motto on full display: “doing together what we cannot do alone!”

Blessings and have a lovely weekend,

Rabbi Joshua
