Answered Prayers & Prayer Requests
We see a lot of turmoil every day in Jamaica, with so many in need, so many barely holding onto hope. It’s a daunting task to find a way to assist to each one, and it’s hard if we have to reluctantly say no, especially when our staff has to look them in the eye. Your time and treasure always help – we love our teams and donors who make such a difference – but it’s tough right now in Jamaica. There’s an old saying, “When the US sneezes, Jamaica catches a cold.” The US is having a hard time in many ways, and Jamaica’s feeling the pain.
Please keep the following names in your hearts and prayers during this month of Thanksgiving:
Ashley’s mom has been asking over the years for a home. She reached out again recently, saying she has received permission to build on her family's land.
Charli-Ann and Chandra's father has dug the foundation and started what he could. He mentioned that it would help if ACE could provide some steel and some cement; he already has the sand and other materials.
Reneika's mom, who has been asking for help for years, actually started and got all the way to the lintel (roof level) but ran out of resources to finish for the time being.
Lissane and Samoya's mom had started as well but couldn't finish. She's from Hampstead and has two children sponsored.
Shaniel has graduated from Edgehill; however, before taking her off the program, we spoke to the father about what was next for her and he mentioned that she has an illness, something relating to the heart that requires surgery.
Fiona, who is currently a Second Story child, has an illness which affects her spine and is in need of surgery. The scheduled date is April of next year; however, the family doesn't have any resources to even begin coming up with the funds necessary to help her.
We also ask for prayers for our staff working on the ground in Jamaica. Not only do they field requests like these daily, but, much like we are feeling in the US, the stresses and overall uneasiness are taking their toll. Please pray for their peace of mind and the ability to find purpose and clarity when times are tough. ACE is what it is because of the hard work and dedication of our Jamaican staff, and without these gifted individuals, we cannot make things happen.
And we do have a praise to add to our prayers! We had a follow-up meeting with the survivors of the fire that we featured in our last newsletter and have offered them an opportunity to live and work with us. Pray that they are willing and able to move to our community and be a part of our St. Mary/ACE family.
