After over twenty years of service to Boulder Labs Library, we would like to wish library technician Laura Kistner a very happy retirement and our best wishes for her next chapter!

Zotero Workshops: March 25th and 27th

Zotero is a free, open source bibliography management software that helps you collect, organize, and cite sources effortlessly. These drop-in workshop sessions will feature a hands-on, guided tour of Zotero’s features, as well as provide opportunity for one-on-one support. Whether you are looking to streamline your productivity with a new program, or are an existing Zotero user with questions, come learn more about this powerful research tool.

Mid-afternoon coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided courtesy of BLEA.

Tuesday, March 25th: Main Library (Building One; NOAA users enter through Broadway side entrance): 2:00pm-3:30pm

Thursday, March 27th: Branch Library (DSRC, 2C407): 2:00pm-3:30pm

If you can't make the workshop times and would like to schedule a consultation, please email sarah.hagerman@noaa.gov.

Blast from the Stacks: Niels Bohr

The Application of the Quantum Theory to Atomic Structure: Part 1, The Fundemental Postulates

Blast from the Stacks highlights rare, intriguing, and historical items from the Boulder Labs Library physical collections. Visit the Main Library to travel over a century back in time to explore the origins of quantum theory.

First published in 1924, this concise volume provides an English translation of a 1923 German language essay which appeared in the Zeitschrift für Physik journal. One of the oldest monographs in the BLL collection, it explores the basic principles of quantum theory as applied to understanding the structure of atoms

Bohr's countless contributions to physics are still profoundly influential today. Take NIST’s recent work on an atomic thermometer. Quoting NIST, “Unlike traditional thermometers, a Rydberg thermometer doesn’t need to be first adjusted or calibrated at the factory because it relies inherently on the basic principles of quantum physics. These fundamental quantum principles yield precise measurements that are also directly traceable to international standards.”
