We each probably wonder now and then who we are and who God is calling us to be. The story at this link tells of a young girl in Ellsworth, Maine, who wondered that very thing, and who listened to her deepest heart for the answer to those questions. I am so thankful to all the people who sent this link to me. And now I share it with you. (And as an added treat, you will see that our own Lynne Witham is part of the story.)
Just when I thought maybe miracles didn't happen anymore, this story came my way and assured me they do. Thanks be to God for it all.

Bishop Mariann Budde (Episcopal Diocese of Washington, DC) is a nationally respected faith leader, author, and advocate for justice, known for her courageous and faithful public witness. In this timely event, she will reflect on the role of faith in shaping moral leadership and building a more just and compassionate society.
This gathering is an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to come together and learn how to be brave, stand for justice, speak truth to power, and seek mercy for our most vulnerable and marginalized neighbors. Tickets are $56 including fees, and may be purchased online or in person at the PortTix Box Office, 400 Congress St., Portland, Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Session Three: The modern mystical movement
We see how the work of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955) at the beginning of the 20th century, and of Thomas Berry (1914-2009) and Matthew Fox (1940- ) at the midpoint and end of it, paved the way for the eco-theologies of our own time.

You are invited to an Open House at Home Port this Saturday, 1-3 pm
The renovation of patient rooms into 23 apartments is nearing completion.
Fourteen will be for the elderly and nine for essential workers. In addition to new flooring and ceiling tiles, we have installed new heating, air ventilation, fire suppression, and electrical wiring systems. The wainscot panel attached to the bottom half of the walls in the corridors is beautiful. We hope to have the renovation completed by Thanksgiving and accept residents thereafter.
We are very proud of what we have accomplished and want to share it with the community. We hope you can make some time Saturday between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to come and join us.

Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Beginning with today’s Gospel reading, the ministry of Jesus is directed toward his approaching death and resurrection and his preparing the disciples for that event. Peter, who moments before expressed his faith in Jesus as the Messiah, now recoils at the thought of Jesus’ death. Jesus begins to explain that the way into the Kingdom of God is sacrifice. His death and resurrection will be the model for that way.
Last Sunday, we heard of the birth of Moses into slavery, and his adoption by the daughter of the Egyptian king. Now as a young man, he has fled Egypt to escape punishment for killing an Egyptian who was mistreating a Hebrew slave. At Horeb, also called Mount Sinai, God revealed himself and sent Moses to set the people of Israel free from their slavery.
Today’s passage from the Epistle to the Romans deals with the characteristics of Christian living. Note that we are called to love each other and to recognize that our lives are completely bound up in the lives of our brothers and sisters.
We are given many ways of ministering and the Eucharist is a model of our ministry in caring for others and the world. In the Eucharist, by remembering Christ’s dying and rising, we become participants in God’s redemptive action. Our own lives are filled with meaning because we share in his life, death, and resurrection.
