ERC Fellow Leaves Lasting Impact on Michigan City


Economic Development Corporation Michigan City and community leaders recognized ERC Fellow Tracey Clark Jefferies for her contributions to Vibrant Michigan City initiatives, entrepreneurship, leadership development and community engagement. As one of 65 cities selected nationally for the Economic Recovery Corps program, Michigan City benefited from Clark Jefferies’ work advancing Small Business Roundtables, Neighborhood 101, entrepreneurship initiatives and grant opportunities. Her fellowship has been extended three months, allowing her to continue supporting projects that strengthen Michigan City’s economic future.

Lubeznik Center for the Arts Fall Classes Open for Registration


Registration opens Wednesday, August 19 at noon Central for fall 2026 art classes and workshops at Lubeznik Center for the Arts. Offerings for kids, teens and adults include painting, mixed media, watercolor, character design and creative writing, along with new workshops for teens and adults. Scholarships are available. Due to high demand, Abstract Painting I & II and Sandcastle Writers require phone or in-person registration.

Purdue Federal Welcomes Chris Sibila as Chief Strategy & Experience Officer


Purdue Federal Credit Union has named Chris Sibila as Chief Strategy and Experience Officer, a newly established executive role focused on connecting the credit union’s strategic vision with member and employee experiences. Sibila brings more than 30 years of financial services experience, most recently serving as senior vice president and chief information officer at Financial Center First Credit Union. He has held leadership roles spanning strategy, technology, operations, payments and member experience.

PNW Hosts Free Back-to-School Supply Giveaways

Purdue University Northwest will host free “Roaring Back to School” school-supply giveaways Aug. 6 in Hammond and Aug. 7 in Westville for families with K–12 students. Supplies include notebooks, folders, writing and art materials, with refreshments, games and community resources also available. Students must be present to receive supplies. The Hammond event runs 4–6 p.m.; Westville is 2:30–4:30 p.m.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Application Available



Applications are now open for the 2027 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. Two La Porte County students will receive full tuition and required fees for four years of undergraduate study at an eligible Indiana college or university, plus up to $900 annually for books and equipment. Eligible students must have a 3.75+ GPA and meet residency and graduation requirements. Apply online 4:59 p.m. September 9, 2026.

Unity Foundation Awards Nearly $340,000 in Scholarships to 157 Local Students


Unity Foundation of La Porte County has awarded nearly $340,000 in scholarships to 157 local students for the 2026–2027 academic year. Recipients will attend 37 colleges, universities and educational institutions nationwide. Since 1992, Unity Foundation has awarded approximately $5 million through more than 60 scholarship funds, helping La Porte County students pursue higher education and career opportunities. Scholarships are made possible through the generosity of local donors committed to investing in the community’s future.

Up 4 Movement Celebrates Grand Opening of New Chesterton Location


Up 4 Movement celebrated the grand opening of its new Chesterton location with a ribbon-cutting July 16. Located at 132 N. Calumet Road, the boutique fitness studio offers sculpt classes, mat Pilates, yoga, personalized training and movement-based fitness programs. Founder Katrina Jackson welcomed guests to tour the new studio and meet the team. Up 4 Movement, a Michigan City Chamber member, also operates its original location at 621 Franklin St. in Michigan City.
