This Sunday we conclude our 3-part Sermon Series entitled “The Path to the Kingdom.”  In this series we have seen how humility and forgiveness are essential to living in a way that points to God’s Kingdom. This week, we see how Jesus uses the parable of the laborers in the vineyard to help his disciples understand the mysterious, incalculable largess of God’s grace. [Matthew 20:1-16]

What is our response to God’s grace? How might our faith and our lives change if we were to see God’s grace as Jesus does?

Meal with a Mission - September 23rd

The next Meal with a Mission will be Wednesday, September 23rd at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will serve a simple supper and afterward preparing Welcome Home Kits for Christian Churches United. Our goal is 200 kits - see below the items needed, and thank you for your help thus far!

• Laundry Basket: 172 needed
• Cleaning Buckets: 2 to 2 ½ gallon – one per kit - 174 needed
• Toilet Brush – one per kit - 176 needed
• Spray Bottle of All Purpose Cleaner – one per kit - 179 needed
• Spray Bottle of Bathroom Cleaner – one per kit - 167 needed
• Cleaning Cloths/Rags (new) – two per kit - 249 needed
• Liquid Hand Soap – two bottles per kit - 360 needed
• Laundry Detergent – one box or bottle per kit - 169 needed

There are bins to place the cleaning supplies in the Gathering Place and by the Preschool; the laundry baskets and cleaning buckets can be stacked by the bins.

Prayers for John Clegg

Please keep our Sexton, John Clegg, and his family in your prayers. John had a heart attack last weekend and has had bypass surgery this week. Please keep John in your prayers as he has a long recovery ahead.  If you would like to send a card, the Cleggs’ home address is 509 Hickory Ridge Road, Newport, PA 17074. If you know of someone who would be interested in temporary part time paid work to help clean during John’s absence, please contact Diane (DianeR@silverspring.org) in the church office. Duties would include vacuuming, collecting trash, cleaning bathrooms, and dry/wet mopping the Gathering Place and gym floors. The hourly wage is negotiable.

Calling All Musically Gifted Families!

Do you or members of your family sing, play an instrument, or have another musical talent you'd like to share? We are looking for individuals and families interested in participating in our Family Christmas Eve Service. Whether you are a vocalist, instrumentalist, or would like to be involved in another musical way, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with SSPC's Intergenerational Choir Director, Mandy Bevenour, at amandapenguin@outlook.com if you are interested in participating. Your participation will help make it a memorable celebration for our congregation while also supporting Mandy's growth and experience as she prepares for a future career in music education. We look forward to sharing the gifts and talents of our church family as we celebrate the joy of Christmas together.

New CE Class starts Sunday!

Join us in Room 204 at 10:10 for the first class in a 6-part seminar on “What Makes us Reformed Christians, and How Did We Get this Way?”  We start with our most fundamental belief, based in the debates of the early church.  What do we believe about Jesus Christ and why?  What about God and the Holy Spirit? Bring your coffee and we will see you there!

Fall Faire is coming October 24, 8 am - 1 pm!

• Please take time to look at the Volunteer Board in the Gathering Place. There are many opportunities to help out!
• We are accepting donations on Sundays after the Gathering Service until 2 pm. If you need help during the week to bring items in from your car, please call the church office. 
• PIES ARE NEEDED: If you can bake a pie or two, please sign up on the board. Homemade is preferable, but store bought is okay too. Thank you!
• Donations needed: nice boutique-y items – lamps, embroidered pillows, Christmas items, white elephant items, toys, children's books, jewelry, new items for Silent auction, etc. We are not taking small appliances, linens of any kind, books (except for children's books), or glassware anymore, but if you have a beautiful set of bone china, tools, or decorative items you want to donate, we will take those. The Health Ministries Committee invites you to our lecture series on Healthy Living. 

Please join us on September 27 at 10:10 Room 204. If you are unable to attend, please join us on Zoom. The lecture will be presented by Dr. Chris Ryder a pediatrician in Central PA who originally trained and practiced in South Africa. The title of the lecture is: “Are vaccinations really that important?” We look forward to seeing you for what is going to be a very interesting and informative discussion. 

From Christian Education - Did You Know?!

Christian Education offers 8 Bible study classes each month for adults and coming soon two new Bible studies in October 2026! We offer classes on Sunday morning, Monday afternoon, and Tuesday nights and starting soon, Wednesday afternoons. Come and join us to discuss and learn! Gathering Video this week

This week our video is from contemporary singer Phil Wickham. It's called "Everyday Hallelujah". It tells how God blesses each and every day, in little ways and big ways, in ways we see and ways we can't see. Come at 10:55 am to view it in the Gathering or stay after the Benediction for the encore!

The Intergenerational Choir begins this Sunday morning, September 20th

All of our Sunday School parents, teachers and parents will gather in Room 112 to start Sunday School with music!

Youth Church and Pre-K./K Youth Church this Sunday, Room 112, 10 am

We will meet as a group and sing and then break up into separate groups for Sunday School. Sunday School is music, Bible lessons, crafts, and lots of fun! Sunday School is for 3-year-olds to 18-year-olds. Parents and grandparents are welcome!

Monday Afternoon Bible Study - September 21st

All are invited to join this unique study. We meet 1 pm to 3 pm, every first and third Monday of the month, in Room 204. We continue our in-depth study of the Gospel of John, by Pastor Skip Heitzig. The next section we cover will be John 10. Come and join this growing group of interested adults, men and women! Learn and discuss.

Men's Bible Study - Monday, September 28th

We meet in Room 204, 7 pm - 8:30 pm, AND online via Zoom (2nd and 4th Monday evenings of the month). If you need the link, contact Scott! For the next session we will be discussing Genesis 3:10, "He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so, I hid.” When we feel exposed, when shame rises, when we’re uncertain of where we stand, our first instinct is often to pull back and hide from God. You may not be hiding in a garden. But you know what it feels like to hear God’s voice and want to step away. To feel spiritually exposed. To wonder if you’re too broken, too lost, too far behind to be seen clearly by Him. We discuss why, what does this mean to Christian men? We also discuss the question, How do we know our words are powerful? Suggestions for courses of study are welcome - contact Scott Pepperman at puppytrainer52@aol.com. This class is for all SSPC congregation men and friends, ages 18 and above.

Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study

Young Adults Christian Education Group, the Pathfinders!

CE and young leaders from SSPC have begun a new group for young adults over 18 called the "Pathfinders." For further information, contact Ty Headley. Currently, the group is studying from the Book of Matthew. Come and discuss, come and learn!

Spiritual Direction Small Group on Zoom – Keeping the Crazies out of Christmas

Pastor Lisa is designing a spiritual direction small group, which will begin October 29th, and run for four consecutive weeks on Zoom. The class will be held Thursday afternoons from 2-3:30 pm. The last class will be held in person, on December 3rd,  with a special class and exercise. Topics to be explored-the American Christmas Crazies Origins, Special Christmas Memories, The True Meaning of Christmas, etc. Look for a sign-up sheet in the Gathering Place, beginning the latter part of September, and a Realm email the first part of October. This will be a very informative, special class, where,  in itself, a beautiful Christmas memory will be made.♥

Wine Tasting Group - September 19th

The next wine tasting will take place on Saturday September 19th at Jim Worden & Joyce Shirley's house at 2139 Arbor Court, Mechanicsburg 17055. As usual, please bring a dish to share and the cost of the wines will be split at the end of the evening among those who tried them. Dining Out group - Tuesday September 29th, 5:30PM

The SSPC Dining Out Group (everyone is welcome) will get together Tuesday evening, Sept 29th at Flinchy's Restaurant in Camp Hill for dinner at 5:30 PM.  Sunset will be 6:54 PM so  for those who don't like night driving, Don & Chris are offering carpooling services. Just call us a couple days ahead to request please. We hope you can join us. Use the sign-up sheet at church or call/text Don Winning 717-704-6962 so we may give the restaurant a final head count on Monday September 28th.

Sight and Sound Trip - We are going again!

CE is again organizing a bus trip to Sight and Sound, to see the presentation of Joshua! We will meet at the church at 9 am, on Tuesday, September 29th. After the presentation, we will enjoy fellowship and lunch at Shady Maple Restaurant.Only 10 tickets are still available, so reserve your seat now! The cost is $198 per person for the bus, show and lunch. We plan to be back to the church before 6 pm. Contact Scott Pepperman, or sign up in the Gathering Place. Checks can be made payable to SSPC. BOO! CE is again holding the Annual Trunk-Or-Treat Spooktacular!

This outreach event is scheduled for Sunday, October 25th, from 4 pm to 6 pm. We will gather in the gym parking lot, with decorated cars and vans and hand out candy to children and dog and cat treats for our animal lovers. We encourage all members of the congregation to come and join us, decorate your car and yourself! CE will provide all of the candy you need! We are gladly accepting donations of candy; look for the decorated basket in the Gathering Place this Sunday!

Laundry Ministry Update - Loads of love!

The SSPC Youth and CORE members continue their Laundry Ministry here at the church. We continue to collect quarters in the Gathering Place, and purchase laundry cards to hand out to patrons at local Morris Laundromats. We will be traveling to the Morris Laundromat in New Cumberland next time we go out to spread evangelism and hand out gift cards! We have donated 10 gift cards to New Hope Ministries to spread our gifts! Thank you, congregation!

Storyboard Ministry

The Youth have an easel in the Gathering Place with Post-it notes and markers for your prayer requests (no names, please). Each Sunday we collect the requests and pray for them at our CORE meetings. Whatever is on your heart, put it on the storyboard and we will pray for each request. If you see a request that you would like to take with you and pray for, feel free to do so. If you want to add one, please do as well. Our new box for answered prayers is beside the Storyboard. Feel free to place any answered prayers that you are thankful for in the box. God does indeed answer prayers! Blessings.

Reuse desiccant packages [found in pill bottles, purses, etc. to keep out moisture].:

• store with electronics
• keep papers and photos dry
• freshen stored luggage
• use in shoe boxes and gym bag storage
• help protect tools from rust
